An hour and a half to receive our meal, music blasting so loud we could not enjoy a polite dinner conversation. Half of our party left because they ran out of the “weekend special” it is served what, Saturday through Sunday, and it was only Saturday evening. The half of our party that stayed at the table receive their food at the same time the other half of our party do you have around for 15 minutes and then went to another restaurant and ordered the same meal, Pork chops and grilled broccoli. unfortunately, there Puccini appetizer arrived with the meal and it was cold and frozen in the middle. They did enjoy the pizza, what young person doesn’t like pizza? Overall the wait staff and the chef were incompetent, The majority of the staff running around filling water glasses etc. could not answer any of our questions about the food and had to go ask other people, the service was extremely slow, except for the 4 glasses of water they refilled before I chose to leave and eat elsewhere because it should not take two hours to get pizza & Puccini. Also, appetizers should be served prior to the meal and when meant to be served hot they should be hot and not frozen in the middle and cold! The music was WAY TOO LOUD for dinner. some people have commented how they enjoy having a child friendly atmosphere. The first time we ate at this restaurant I did not enjoy having children running around the restaurant screaming and making noise, over and above the overly loud music. Who takes children to a bar type atmosphere with blasting music and incompetent staff? I have been disappointed in this restaurant twice, once for a late lunch and this past Saturday for a nice quiet dinner with friends and family, I ended up eating without my friends and family because they ran out of their special and did not bother to tell me until 40 minutes after I had ordered the meal! I totally agree with many of the other reviews that I have read, their waitstaff does not appear to have a clue about what they’re doing, what they’re serving and the service is...
Read moreThis is my 3rd and last time reviewing this restaurant. I have been to the place more than 20 times over the past few years, trying to support a local business that Newport needs, and I have reviewed it several times for the unevenness of the service and quality. However, this last Saturday took service and quality to an all-time low. We arrived just after 1 – the place was still pretty busy – had to wait 20 minutes for a table – no big deal. Got seated, got beers and appetizer pretty quick. Then we waited…and waited…and waited… and waited… and waited… After a LONG time, I finally got up and was able to flag down our waitress, and had the following interaction:
Me: “Can you tell us what is going on with our food, we have ben waiting like 40-45 minutes.” Waitress: (in her best snippy, why are you bothering me voice): “No you haven’t! I just checked, and it’s ONLY been 36 minutes.” (imagine crickets chirping in the background) I was so stunned, I could not even say anything. She then went on… Waitress: (While pointing to 2 tables behind her with about 10-12 people each). “Can’t you see we are busy?” Then she hit the zero-customer-service trifecta: “And what do you want me to do about it?”
We did get our food about 10 minutes later, with no apology for lateness. The manager helped bring the food over, but basically dropped my wife’s lunch on the table and scurried away like a dog with it’s tail between his legs. My food was inedible – 3 small pieces of salmon fish and chips – burned, cold fries, and slaw slopped on the pan. To avoid a further scene, I got up and left – and I will never return. I did leave a message for the owner – Greg – to call me, and have received zero response.
As I have written about before the service ranges from very good to awful (see above), and the quality of the food follows the same arc. Go if you want, you might have a good experience, you will likely have a bad to mediocre experience, and never a...
Read moreI feel like this place deserves a second chance, and maybe someday I’ll follow through…
Dining here on a late Sunday afternoon with my daughter for an evening meal was a mixed bag. The place is really working the atmosphere and vibe, and we were kinda liking it. We had some fried cauliflower that seemed kinda undercooked, if at all and would have mentioned it to our server but that where things break down. From what I saw we were given the tourist’ treatment where she clearly held some disdain for us. It’s not something I say lightly, but next to us was a table of people who were clearly from the area and affable with our server- who gave the appearance and overlooking our table for the entirety of our visit while that table of familiar patrons/ friends got loads of attention as we sat awaiting her to notice our attempts to get her to bring us our check, or even some takeout boxes. I eventually just went and asked the chap at the counter for some and our bill. Back at our table a few minutes later our server appears complaining that multiple people want to pay now in what seemed a mock attempt at an apology while she hands me a service device for payment at table side. Neat! So she’s leaning over me to watch what gratuity I was going to select starting at the new normal of 18%.
Disgust is what I felt for this persons horrible behavior and attitude, but it felt like she was maybe tired after a long weekend of likely awful tourists and us being on the tail end of that weekend was just luck of the draw… but that’s not how this place felt nor were any of the other staff giving off that vibe. So the server who’s too old to be in pigtails maybe needs to learn that kindness is its own reward, and that the absolute worst thing about tourists is when they don’t show up.
Maybe someday we’ll try again, but damn that was a notably...
