Buddy Love's BBQ - — Restaurant in Ocean City

I really hate to do this, BUT I have to. Last year, we visited the location on the boardwalk and had such a GREAT meal! Their ribs, potato salad, mac and cheese, and BBQ baked beans were phenomenal! We looked forward to their food again this year on our family vacation. Tonight, we ordered 2 racks of ribs with sides (equaling 4 sides). Turns out they do not sell these items on the boardwalk anymore. Nbd. We walked to the restaurant to order (not far). My family of 5 was SO excited to eat their food again. All 5 of us were SO disappointed! The side dishes were half the size of last years. They didn't have the potato salad tonight. The bbq baked beans were literally mush..the Mac and cheese was so dried out. The coleslaw was about 5 bites before the container was empty (an even smaller container than the other sides). The fries we received were about a handful. The ribs, I feel like were reheated (dried out), and they just added bbq sauce to them. The sauce definitely was not the same. We went there at about 5:30pm. We were so disappointed this year. We will never go back. Not sure why everything was SO different, but it definitely wasn't worth the $106 we paid. We gave our 2nd rack of ribs to a stranger staying in our building because we didn't want to throw that...

Because I saw the 4.9 rating, I gave this place a shot and found out much was left to be desired. I waited ten to fifteen minutes despite there being no line, which would be here nor there, but the food absolutely did not justify the wait. I ordered brisket, which is normally served as a sandwich, which actually makes sense because the meat itself was neglected: Apart from the unmet desire for a simple, sliced brisket, there were chunks of fat in my container of chopped meat that should have otherwise been trimmed off. It was…edible. The baby back ribs had potential that was wasted by an excess of sauce. They were very tender, and I could tell it had a great rub on it, but it was completely obscured by the lathered on bbq sauce, which, in fairness could just be a personal preference (on the side would have been 👍). What is not a preference-based critique is how they ruined otherwise fantastic in-season jersey corn, and left me with a mushy, Old Bay bay flavored mess. Edible, at best. I never would have thought I’d find delicious soul food barbecue on the boardwalk, but Buddy Love’s BBQ nailed it. I had the brisket combo platter and my husband had the ½ rack rib combo platter. Each came with two sides, so we got try to several sides.

The portion size was fantastic! We were both full after devouring our meals. The brisket was tender and flavorful and the branded bun was a great personal touch. The ribs practically fell off the bone and the sauce was sweet and spicy.

The sides were delicious too. The macaroni and cheese was full of cheese and well seasoned. The baked beans were thick and had just the right amount of smoke flavor. We received a full piece of corn on the cob as a side and it was buttery and Cajun seasoned.

The service was fast and friendly and I could tell the owners wanted customers to be welcomed and well fed. I would DEFINITELY come back here to eat. I hope more people visit this place. It’s one of the best on...
