The best Al Pastor (Spicy pork tacos) outside of Mexico, hands down! This place is great for late-night eating on a Friday or Saturday night, when they bring the grill outside and cook the tacos right in front of you. They are only a buck each, so you can't beat the price either.
Here, in authentic al pastor style, the worker, generally 24 hours or more before, marinates thin slices of pork shoulder consisting of hot chilies and aromatics that range from orange to bright red. The shoulder is then skewered onto a vertical skewer, a bell-shaped trompo (spinning top), which is topped with fresh-sliced pineapple, and slowly rotated in front of a vertical gas grill. As the trompo grill rotates, it slowly cooks the fat from the pork shoulder, thereby dripping across the surface layer of the shoulder, basting it with pineapple juices as well, as it gets crispy and crunchy. As each outer layer of the shoulder meat starts to get crispy, the worker, using a really sharp knife, shaves it off, catching the meat scraps in fresh corn tortillas.
Then, you take your tacos al pastor inside the "store," ( don't be fooled by the exterior and the interior, as it looks like an absolute dive), and put on as much cilantro, onions, and a variety of 4-5 different mild, medium, to extremely hot sauces as your heart desires. It's truly some of the most delicious food you'll ever eat, no matter where you go in the world, and I should know, as I have traveled to many places!
Cash only, so make sure you go to an ATM before, and there are several nearby, and bring $10 to $20 to pay on how many tacos you want for yourself, and if you decide to buy for some friends too (You probably will not end up wanting to share, because they are that good! :-) they also have a lot of El Jarritos drinks if you enjoy that Mexican style of soda as well. I personally love the pineapple and the grapefruit flavors.
Finally, on Wednesdays, rather than paying $1 per Taco, you can get two for $1.50. It truly is a hole-in-the-wall sort of place, and at that price, there's no place better to get authentic Mexican tacos! I have been over 50 times now, and lately, over the last year, I generally go on Friday or Saturday, after 7 pm local time, as I like the trumpo outside grill with the fresh pineapple, at least once a week.
Eat up and let me know what you think as soon as you have tried the deliciousness that is Taqueria...
Read moreDon't expect anything more than a glorified indoor taco cart, plastic utensils, plates, patched walls, and leaky sinks. This is my new favorite taco spot; they have all the meats I mean all of them and the flavor is beautifully simple; that's the draw for me the salsa in the salsa cart was just as flavorful and adds to the simplistic nature, I tried to get one of each taco, but there are too many I couldn't find my favorite they were all so so good, I can't wait to get back to try the rest, I did have a torta, and wow the bread was not too much it was just right it had a great texture. The flavor was on point, the staff was so friendly and had the best smile, and the ambiance was clean where it mattered. Bottom line, if you like tacos and can appreciate what this is, it will be...
Read moreThis place was small, quaint, cozy, and had great tacos. Fair fore warning, CASH ONLY! Definitely worth a visit at least once. I went on Taco Wednesday, so the price was 2 SMALL street tacos for $1.50. I would definitely recommend you get no less than 4, UNLESS you can only ever eat 3 bites of anything. I ordered 6 tacos and seriously considered going back for another 4. I ordered the carne asada tacos. My friends ordered al pastor. They were both amazing!! The salsa bar has the rest of the ingredients to complete the delicious feast that is the taco! Hope to...
