i'd just like to say how freakin impressed i've been with WRC. these guys are absolutely killing it. i've made it up to o-town a handful of times to try something at their shop, and while i have almost no experience with their flavored lattes or other mixed/sweetened drinks, each manually brewed cup of coffee and shot of espresso was crisp, clean, and sweet on its own. attaining sweetness and clarity of flavor while roasting light (light- in order to preserve a coffee's unique quality/flavors of terroir and variety) is a task that requires an incredible amount of skill, not to mention a virtually endless amount of study. on almost every visit i bought a bag of their coffee to bring home and dial in on my own pour-over. i was really taken aback with the fact that this roaster that sort of appeared on the scene out of nowhere was producing consistently enjoyable light roasted single-origin coffees. district coffee (nice shop here in salt lake) does a featured roaster program where they use a different roaster for a few months at a time. they've used some of my favorite roasters in the US, such as onyx, and brandywine coffee, but one of the most memorable drip brews i ever had there was when they were using wasatch roasters! if my memory serves me it was a washed coffee from rwanda, and it blew my mind with its clear notes of concord grape just jumping out of that cup of black coffee. a handful of times someone from wasatch has visited the shop that i work at in salt lake and been so generous as to leave us with some free samples of their coffee. again, whether trying them there on the fly or giving them a little more loving attention at home, i've never thought of any of these coffees as being sub-par. while my experience with wasatch coffees may be comparitively limited, WCR's coffee hasn't disappointed me once, which is more than i can say about almost any other coffee roaster. so, thanks to these guys in our...
Read moreIt took a little too long to get my coffee to me on my first visit, but my guts tell me this was not the norm. The guy who runs the joint is from a bit farther east and wants to bring more light roasting to the area. I say bring it on. It was a welcome change to walk into a UT coffee shop and catch the scent of a roaster and to taste a pour-over that had notes of fruit and chocolate.
Great product quality, but I'd like to visit a few more times to really get a lay of the land flavor-wise. I have no doubt WRC will continue to improve as they become more well-known in the area.
Mostly street parking, but you can use the lot behind Lucky Slice, which is across the street.
Definitely more of an artisan feel to WRC, so if you're in a rush to get to work (like I was on my first visit) consider coming back when you've got a break so you can really enjoy the experience. Decor and "feel" is hipstery, but that's okay from time to time. WRC is somewhere I'd be most likely to haunt on a Saturday, when I can stay for a while, enjoy the aesthetic, and get some reading and writing done.
Looking forward to visiting twice,...
Read moreThis is the greatest café in Ogden and I wager within the entire state. The prices are less than those in Salt Lake City and they even roast their own coffee. I have been to many places in Salt Lake City and there is no comparison in the roasts. When one enjoys small batched, single origin coffee I don't see how one could lose. Their coffee items range from brewed, cold brew (probably depending on time of year), latte, to other regular menu items, also while offering a very open and inviting atmosphere. Aesthetics are not the most important for me, although this place is certainly one to do work, sit around and enjoy the ambiance and have a great, well made coffee in. Being an avid light roast nice acidity coffee drinker, each bean has been roasted to perfection. Their beans have opened my eyes to new coffees I didn't think I'd like in the process. Prices for coffee are moderate and by no means the most expensive in the state, but the quality is outstanding and each roast like an artwork in and of itself. Highly recommend this café to all coffee lovers and anyone looking for an exceptional café within the...
