During a recent visit to OKC, we had the chance to dine at The Clove Restaurant, which serves authentic Indian and Himalayan cuisine—with a strong focus on Nepali food. If you're looking to try genuine Nepali flavors, this place is a hidden gem you shouldn't miss.
We started with a Mango Lassi, which was thick, creamy, and refreshingly sweet—easily one of the better ones we've had.
For appetizers, we ordered the Nepali Chicken Choila (spice level 4, the highest). This dish consisted of grilled boneless chicken mixed in bold, spicy Nepali seasonings, served with puffed rice and a pickle made in mustard oil. The flavor was outstanding—spicy, aromatic, and very well-balanced. A must-try for spice lovers.
For the main course, we had Jhol Chicken Momo, another classic Nepali dish, also with spice level 4. The momos were perfectly steamed, and the jhol (spiced broth) was rich, flavorful, and had just the right level of heat. The spice wasn’t overwhelming—it was the kind that builds gently and keeps you wanting more.
We also tried their Chicken Biryani, but this was the only dish that didn’t quite hit the mark. If you’re a fan of authentic Kolkata or Hyderabadi biryani, this version might not be for you. It resembled a fusion between Lucknowi tawa biryani and fried rice, and unfortunately, the rice was undercooked, which affected the overall experience.
We didn’t explore much of the Indian menu, but based on what we tried, The Clove is a must-visit if you're interested in authentic Nepali cuisine. The service was good, and the spice levels were clearly communicated, which helped us choose dishes that suited our taste.
Highly recommended for the Nepali side of the menu, especially the Chicken Choila and Jhol Momos. We’ll definitely be back...
Read moreMy friend and I recently visited Clove Restaurant, located downtown, for a casual date night. Specializing in Indian cuisine, Clove offers a clean, modern atmosphere that’s both welcoming and stylish. It made a great first impression.
While English wasn't the strongest suit for some of the wait staff, they were exceptionally friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Their effort and warmth made the service one of the highlights of our visit.
Clove does have a bar, but it's worth noting there was no bartender on duty during our visit, and the drink selection was quite limited. So, if you're looking for a place with a strong cocktail menu, this might not be the best fit.
As for the food, we’re both new to Indian cuisine, so we can’t judge its authenticity, but we gave a few dishes a try. We started with the Chicken Momo, which we both really enjoyed—they were flavorful and a great way to begin the meal. For our mains, I had the Chicken Komara, and my friend ordered the Chicken Curry. Both were okay—not standout dishes, but decent enough for a first-timer's experience.
All in all, we had a pleasant evening. If you're someone who enjoys trying new cuisines in a relaxed setting, Clove is worth checking out. It may not have wowed us with the food, but it definitely provided a unique and...
Read moreMy wife and I recently visited this wonderful Indian and Nepalese restaurant on the second floor overlooking the canal in the Brickyard portion of downtown Oklahoma City. It was extremely hot on the day we visited (just 8 days after this restaurant opened) yet the temperature inside was delightful as was the wonderful aromas wafting from the kitchen. The menu has what you would expect for this type of cuisine (i.e., masala, curry, vindaloo, korma, saag, etc). We were unable to try everything even though it was tempting. We ordered the Paneer Tikka Masala and the Mix-Veg Curry and shared them with much appreciation for the varied flavors and textures. The accompanying Basmati rice and garlic Naan were flavorful and cooked to perfection.
The staff was delightful and willing to assist with answering questions about the various dishes and accompaniments. We did not have a drink, but the menu suggests a whole host of options. Overall, our dining experience was exceptional. Do not hesitate to visit The Clove if you find yourself in the Brickyard area. We will certainly return the next time we...
