Let me begin by saying that I am very detailed oriented when I review a restaurant. For prices charged these days the experience should be exceptional and it can be the attention to detail that makes the difference between a 5 or 4 star rating.
This was our first visit to Coco Thai. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately. We started with the green papaya salad and Tom Kha Gai soup. The salad was the best I have ever had and I order it at any Thai restaurant we patronize. The spices were perfectly blended and the green papaya was crisp and fresh. The soup was perfect as well. It had a generous amount of chicken and mushrooms and it was light and refreshing. I ordered the Pad Se Eu. It was very tasty and a generous portion. My husband ordered his go to dish, Red Curry. It needed more sauce and the flavor was rather bland and disappointing. However there are so many delicious sounding dishes on the menu there are many reasons to return and try other items.
Here’s where the discrimination comes in. The decor was very modern and clean but the Christmas tinsel around the ceiling and the valentine hearts hanging by the bar totally cheesed up the place. Time to take down the Dollar Tree cheap decorations. The bathroom was clean, the floors could use a good scrub especially the grout and the walls were splattered with dirt from the mop. Bathrooms in restaurants should be pristine.
Overall, it was a good dining experience and we will return, try more dishes and look forward to returning. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable...
Read moreThe restaurant was not busy; only one other table with people. The atmosphere was nice looking restaurant . We ordered appetizers : egg rolls, basil rolls, curry puffs. The basil rolls were hot but the shrimp did not taste fresh, the curry puffs were squishy not crunchy or flaky…more like a empanada. The food is not customizable with making something a 1 star heat; not hearing that they cannot do that as the sauces or some meals are pre-made that cannot be changed. Which signals not fresh.
Plus, the waitress was in a hurry in an empty restaurant stating she had to get the other orders in; we were like no cause when one person doesn’t have a meal you don’t put in the order. She stated that my family really wanted to eat there! I corrected her stating I chose this place to eat( my family stated they weren’t eating there without all orders for everyone. ) Since they were not able to handle the dietary needs of one ; we couldn’t stay. She walked away putting in the incomplete entree order…then was upset that we cancelled the entrees that we didn’t want placed until all found something to eat. The manager female was kind enough to understand our situation . The waitress should not have been unprofessional as well as impatient. FYI the appetizers were eaten by 2 out of 4 people. Those 2 that ate got sick less than an hour later. No Thai food comes out in 5 minutes; it’s not fresh. No fun seeing your family sick...
Read moreFirstly, the service was pretty good here and if this is a priority for choice of eatery, yes it hits the spot. However, food wise and prices are coco-Nuts! We ordered only 3 items plus 1 drink and the bill came up to 84 bucks Excluding tips, which ended up being about 100 bucks after tipping! (Refer to picture)
The reason for such a shocker price ? The pad kee mow and pad woon Sen were each priced @15 OR @20 bucks but on the bill we were charged @ 20 as base price which is understandable since it was dinner time...this was just the BASE price. When asked if we wanted meat or seafood with it, we went for seafood which usually incurs additional cost but we were not informed that it was an additional 13 bucks... Each... which is ridiculous since the whole plate of fried noodles , even though frankly tasted nice but had no "wok hei" taste, had only 2 small scallops, a few pieces of shrimps and squid. That means 20 bucks just for noodles alone (+) the small seafood portion as stated above costing 13 (=) 33 in total for one plate ?? Really for a plate of fried noodles ??? Could have gotten a piece of nice steak for the same price. We eat Thai food pretty often at various places but never have we paid 33 bucks for a plate of noodles. The server and restaurant could have been more transparent and upfront in stating prices on the menu ClearLy and informing customers about additional costs especially when it is...
