Lupo was a very nice experience. The Hostess who booked us our reservation was friendly, knowledgeable, and when we had a request about something she didn't know about told us very honestly that we would need to talk to her manager when we arrived for dinner the following night regarding an out of the ordinary request we had as a party.
When we arrived, we again received the warm welcome. The manager granted our request, graciously and without hesitation. Our server Troy was very knowledgeable about the menu, specials, wine, and really all aspects of the dining. He helped one of our parties with some dietary restrictions and even asked the chef to prepare a combination dish to accommodate those dietary restrictions. The Chef took the time to prepare our friend a dish that met her requirements and wasn't on the standard menu (which made us all feel very special and well taken care of).
The pre-dinner drinks were well liked by our table with the exception of mine, I ordered an Orange Blossom (non-alcoholic cocktail as I don't drink). The flavor was not good and I recommend that Lupo take it off the menu because everyone at our table tried it and all of us agreed it did not taste food at all. I didn't downgrade the score for the restaurant over it (no one in Vegas is really focused on non-alcoholic drinks). My suggestion to Lupo would actually be to buy pre-made mocktails, of which there are several very good brands now instead of trying to reinvent the wheel by making them in-house.
Troy, however, noticed that I wasn't drinking it, whisked it away, and took it off of our bill before I could even say anything. I was very impressed that he was that in tune with his guests and that pro-active in seeing to our needs.
I had the ravioli formaggio, which was decadent and rich. It impressed me how luxurious a really very simple dish like cheese ravioli could be done. From the cheese blend to the fresh pasta to the perfect marinara, every step of it was well executed. My friend had the Osso Bucco and gave me a piece to try. They managed to elevate this already decadent dish by somehow infusing a slight anise flavor into the meat. It melted on my tongue and diffused the rich fattiness and innovative flavor. All in all, wonderful execution on the food in all aspects.
I skipped desert but tried a sliver of my wife's citrus tart. The tart had tiny bowls of marshmallow, toasted on the outside with honey and basil inside. The velvetty basil and cloying sweetness of the honey perfectly cut by the sharpness of the citrus. Simple yet wonderfully elegant.
Thank you Troy and all the staff at Lupo for making this a memorable and beautiful...
Read moreWe've always wanted to try a WolfGang Puck restaurant for the first time and decided on Caramá. We were excited about the choices on the menu. The hostesses were very nice. We checked in early and we would be seated closer to our reserved time.
It's a beautiful restaurant. We were assigned 2 servers for the evening. We can't remember our main waiter's name (Dominic ??) and his assistant Cinnamon. They were very helpful for suggestions for the evening. They kept our ice tea, water and Sprite glasses filled without being asked.
We put our orders as soon as we could since we noticed that 2 large groups came in after us and were seated at tables on either side of us.
We ordered the Grilled Spanish Octupus for the appetizer and that was delicious but slightly salty. There was quite a wait for this appetizer to come out. We did take into consideration this was a Saturday 6:30 pm start of prime dinner service.
My wife ordered the Lobster Risotto as her main course and I ordered the Tagliolini Bolognese. We waited a very very long time to get our main courses. At the same time, we felt like we were forgotten since both of our servers were tending to the groups next to us also assigned to them.
My wife could not eat her risotto since it was so salty. It was inedible. The risotto was not soft it seemed undercooked. Not sure if this was suppose to be this way. She did try a piece of lobster and it was ok but was so disappointed with the dish and the long wait time for the food to come out. We were offered for her dish to be redone or to order another dish. but she declined. She was worried due to time constraints for the evening.
My Tagliolini Bolognese was very filling. The pasta and the sauce almost looked like it was starting to harden like it had been sitting on the counter a long time. The pasta was a bit "chewy". I felt that both of our dishes were ready sooner but got forgotten due to tending of the large groups. We were surprised that someone else didn't bring out our dishes as our appetizer was served by someone else not assigned to our table.
My wife finally changed her mind about ordering a dessert and our servers felt better about that. We ordered the Illusione del Limone and the little lemon basket presentation was cute. Overall, the dessert was very good. Not too sweet and the tartness was very refreshing. This dessert was complimentary according to our server.
The dinner started off nice but was disappointed with wait times and taste of our main courses. For the prices on the menu we expected a...
Read moreWe booked a table weeks in advance and the restaurant followed up a few days ahead of time, asking about the occasion, allergies etc. The website painted a picture of a wonderful culinary experience and we were eager to experience this for ourselves.
If you are looking for a five star, world class restaurant, Lupo by Wolfgang Puck is not it.
If you are looking for an intimate setting with attentive staff and white linen, Lupo by Wolfgang Puck is not it.
If you are looking for an upper class experience with food you will dream of for days afterwards, Lupo by Wolfgang Puck is, yup, you guessed it, not it.
So what is it all about then? Well, it is a large restaurant with R&B and pop music blaring over the speakers, waiting staff in cheaply designed blue blazers zipping between tables to give customers the quick runover of the day's specials, before rushing you to get you through the menu and out the door again. There is no dress code, contrary to what you may have read elsewhere. People came in t-shirts and shorts for dinner.
The wine glasses and cutlery are standard issue and not what you would expect from a high class restaurant. And we cannot complain about the table cloth as there weren't none. Oh, and be sure to hang onto your cutlery after appetizers as you will need the same knife and fork for your main meal. In fact, the waiter asked my wife to take her knife and fork out of the Caprese salad dish and hang onto it for the next course.
We had a Caprese salad and the toasted garlic bread for appetizers. Can recommend the garlic bread but the tomatoes in the salad was over ripe and not seasoned. We ordered the Chicken Piccata and Rigatoni pasta with braised beef and pork bolognese sauce for the mains. The chicken was tasty but the bolognese was bland. Both were presented in a way that resembled something you would get from a cheap buffet. No garnish or anything special.
Through the whole meal the appetizer plates were left on the table. We also had to wait a long time for our drinks order which consisted of a glass of prosecco and a beer - not drinks that require a lot of prep time.
We didn't stay for dessert.
Not once did they mention my wife's birthday or say anything about it. Not that they had to, but why ask what the occasion is if you are not going to use the information. It was an overall disappointing experience and not one that we could recommend, unfortunately.
