A local friend recommended Tupelo Park City for a girl's night dinner, so we made the beautiful drive from Salt Lake.
Tupelo Park City makes an excellent first impression. You're greeted in the lobby by rustic chic decor like potted cacti and succulents, leather couches, plush neutral colored pillows and dangling, Edison bulb lighting. There were several private parties going on, so it was fairly packed but we were able to get a table upstairs.
My friends ordered: Buttermilk Biscuits with honey butter - teeny tiny, bite-sized biscuits with butter that seemed to stick to the roof of your mouth Idaho Trout - the bass was accidentally served to them, but eventually they sent out the correct dish and they loved it! Roasted Fall Vegetables - they were al dente, not hot, and didn't taste roasted
For $49, I tried the 5 Course Tasting Course and thoroughly enjoyed about half of the dishes. It seemed to be a great value for the quantity of samples and the serving sizes were generous.
Deviled eggs - I requested to substitute this item because I do not like eggs, but was unable to do so. My friend ate one, but didn't finish the second. Maine Crab Fritters - cold to the touch, very dry and served in an EZ Cheeze like sauce. Beef and Barley - fantastic barley and vegetables, the beef was cooked very well done. Bass - the skin was perfectly crisped and a soft, buttery white fish underneath. Served on a bed of cream cheese mashed potatoes and greens. This was my favorite dish! And beautifully presented. Apple pie - reminded me of the canned apple pie cubes you ate at summer camp. The ice cream was great and presentation was beautiful is a mini cast iron skillet.
Overall, I was surprised that the quality of the dishes didn't match the price point. I have been to several Tupelo Honey Cafe locations, so I also expected this to be an extension of that brand I've long enjoyed. I only realized it wasn't after I read the disclaimer on the menu. I was disappointed to see there wasn't one Tupelo Honey inspired item on the menu.
Where Tupelo really excels is their relaxed, but refined dining environment and plating...
Read moreLet's start with the restaurant is 5 out of 5, the food is amazing, our server was so great but .. the lead hostess who was working tonight was the Worst!
Coming from someone who has built their 5 star hotel off of costumer service i STRONGLY believe that your first impression is everything.
I came In without using our company's name, as I wanted to get an accurate feel of what our guests will experience when they come.
We made reservations for 8:30 which was the earliest time they had available ( totally understandable as it was the day of ) we asked that they put us on a wait list as well Incase an earlier opening Came available. We did not get a call so we assumed our 8:30 res was still the earliest opening. We arrived on the dot ( as i like to be punctual to all reservations ) and she rudely informed us that we did not have a reservation. She continues to express how she never got a call under our name. Once we showed her our 4 minute phone call with the phone number associated with their restaurant she admits she did in fact take the call, however she said she only put us on the hold list. She CLEARLY was Trying to cover her mistake. After trying to calmly speak with her, she expressed "she was tired of arguing with us and would just find us somewhere To sit". I was ready to walk out, and take them off our preferred vendor list.
However, I was talked in to staying and giving the rest of The restaurant a chance and I am so HAPPY I did. Our server was amazing and the food was fantastic . After speaking with our server about our mishap she mentioned This was not the first complaint.
Which. Is. Why. I Am. Writing. This.
If your establishment shows 10/10, you should be proud. However, if the first thing you experience when you walk in the door is a rude, trashy, unprofessional greeting that makes you want leave. I would deeply reconsider your Lead hostess who was working on Tuesday feb...
Read moreI would recommend never going here for a private event or with a larger party. We contracted Tupelo for a party of 25 and had issues from start to finish.
We were promised a menu selection by Dec 1 for an event on the 7th. We didn’t get the menu until the weekend, and the restaurant blamed us for submitting our choices late. During dinner, we had to ask multiple times for waters, drinks, cutlery, plates, etc. with the server continuously forgetting and requiring us to re-ask a different person The food for each course kept showing up at disparate times so there were always 1-2 people at each table awkwardly waiting for their food. There is poor coordination between the kitchen and the staff, and ultimately a basic lack of training on how to service a large event. We were contracted for dinner from 7-9pm. We had to wait 15 minutes before we could find our server to request the check. Once we finally got it and saw we were $700 under the contracted minimum, we tried to order more wine. The restaurant refused to serve us even though they were the ones late giving us our check, never once told us we were nearing the contracted time, and never once let us know we were so far under the minimum until I got the check and could see myself. When they refused to let us order more wine, the manager then came over to us and essentially gaslit us - saying it was our responsibility to ask about the minimum, as well as our responsibility to monitor the time. She then told us we were lucky to not be charged for overstaying our contracted time, even though there was no communication or warning from the restaurant.
Overall, this was a terrible experience for a large group celebrating a special event. I hope this review gives enough warning to either work with a different venue, or to more carefully consider your contract, so you do not leave Park City with this type of memory...
