I am a high school teacher at an alternative school in Western North Carolina, and my students had a field trip on Wednesday, March 12, to Pigeon Forge to visit the Alcatraz Crime Museum. Our students primarily come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, where expensive field trips are not always possible for them. Our school offers field trips that are entirely free of cost or low cost so that our students share some of the same experiences as their peers at a traditional school. We had a rocky start to the beginning of our field trip due to unforeseen events that delayed our start and caused some chaos at school. Amid the chaos, our packed bag lunches got left behind, and we did not realize it until we were already in Pigeon Forge. As the trip leader, I immediately started calling restaurants near Alcatraz Crime Museum to find a low-cost option for the teachers to split to feed our students lunch. Mellow Mushroom was the first restaurant I called since pizza has always been a fan favorite for children, and I am familiar with the chain. Alex, the kitchen cook, answered the phone and immediately went into action to take care of us. I was honest, explained exactly what happened, and asked him if he could give us a discounted price so that all the teachers could afford to split the cost. Not only did he give us a discounted price, but when we arrived at the restaurant to pay the price he had mentioned on the phone, to our surprise, Mellow Mushroom had taken care of the entire cost. As I’m typing this, I am crying because I don’t think Alex knows how much it meant to us. He provided us with pizza, cheese bread, fountain drinks, and a secluded private area for our students. We had one young lady who could not eat pizza due to dietary restrictions, and we went to order an alternative option for her. Alex also paid for that. Mellow Mushroom at the Island in Pigeon Forge will forever have my gratitude and business. I’ve always loved Mellow Mushroom and frequented the Asheville, North Carolina location. Now, I will make sure to visit this location whenever I am in Pigeon Forge. Thank you again to Alex and all the staff for helping us out and caring for kids...
Read moreI am breastfeeding an infant who has a cows milk protein allergy and need to order all of my food dairy free. When vacationing in pigeon forge with my family, I was thrilled to see there was a pizza place that could accommodate my allergy in a town that has very few options. We ate there on Thursday evening. I ordered my pizza with vegan cheese and no butter or parm and specifically told the girl at the counter that I had an allergy. She had an AirPod in but seemed to hear and acknowledge me. When my pizza first came out it was wrong and missing the toppings so it had to be remade. I told the girl (not the same girl from the counter) who offered to remake it to please confirm that it did not have any dairy due to an allergy. She assured me it was fine. I asked her again when she brought the new pizza out and she confirmed that it did not have dairy. 24 hours later I can confirm that both girls either didn’t actually check or didn’t care. My poor sweet baby has been screaming uncontrollably for hours at a time since about 24 hours after I consumed the pizza, which is typical for an allergic reaction. I cut dairy from my diet in May and have had exactly 2 accidental exposures (now 3) so I am familiar with the symptoms. He is so uncomfortable and in so much pain. I know the pizza was the issue because it was the only meal I ate in the last several days that I did not cook myself. Most of the time I make all of my food at home for this exact reason, but my family wanted to do a dinner out while we were away and I thought for sure based on the Mellow Mushroom website and business model that your restaurant could accommodate me. Please do not advertise your food as dairy free if it is not and please educate your employees on the importance of taking allergies seriously. It absolutely cannot be dismissed. My helpless 4 month old baby is completely inconsolable because of something that could have easily been prevented had those two girls not dropped the ball. Needless to say, I...
Read moreMy husband and I came here after the blue moose let down. SO Glad we did. We really wanted pizza after running around the Island, and my husband loves the mellow mushroom. They got rid of the bruschetta pizza, so I was a little disappointed about that but the guy at the counter advertised the taco ultimate pizza . So I had decided to go for it. Needless to say, The taco ultimate pizza was outstanding!! Me and my husband ordered two pizzas. He likes the white mushroom pizza, and I had decided to get the taco ultimate. Such a great choice. It was bursting full of robust, unique flavors, especially the cilantro. We also ordered the Taco Ultimate Queso dip, so Robust, Thick and the Bread dippers compliment it SO WELL. (again, they got rid of the spinach artichoke dip-sad) They took our order when it was close to closing, and we were able to eat outside plenty of seating. The people were nice. We only waited around 15-20 minutes. They brought the pizza out to us and it was scorching hot. Our little guy enjoyed the pizza so much!! They let us sit outside the Restaurant even past closing time as we got to Enjoy our meal and spend time with one another without being rushed. The Place was Clean and had a great Vibe to it. Both inside and outside parts!!
