The photos in previous posts aren't what the inside of the restaurant looks like. The lights are low, chairs are drab. There's all this bamboo lining the outside of the bar and it makes me think: Unsanitary, dusty and fungus. There's also an aquarium in the restaurant which needs cleaning. But my feeling about eating raw fish right next to other raw swimming fish staring at me was a bit..weird. I went by myself on a Tuesday night for dinner before a show at the Keller auditorium. No one was there. I was offered either a bar seat or a table. Chose the table by the aquarium. Both bad choices now that I think of it. I ordered the deluxe combo which came with soup and salad. Also ordered the takoyaki. I took a small spoonful of the soup and it was okay. Took a second and a third and by then I was not going for a 4th. It was too fishy smelling and if the soup sat for a bit whatever is in the soup became like literally a cloud sitting in the clear broth. Didn't look appetizing after that. Had the salad. It was a bit better than the soup but watery. Ate half of it. The sushi and nigri came. Which wasn't bad. The takoyaki was lukewarm and not fresh. But it was edible. I got to the last piece of nigri and the fish was so strong I had to spit it out or else I would have thrown up. After that, I was done. Took what I had left of the takoyaki to go. Their bathroom is huge and nice and clean. 2 stars bc the server was great and attentive. When I got home, decided to eat a takoyaki ball. Couldn't stomach it, spit it out and threw...

Disappointing Service on My Latest VisitI've been a regular patron of this sushi restaurant for quite some time now, drawn in by their usually exceptional food and the inviting ambiance. Unfortunately, my latest experience left much to be desired, specifically regarding the service.Upon arrival, I was informed that the kitchen would be closing at 9:30 PM but decided to dine in regardless. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when I was seated at a table that didn't meet my expectations. Politely, I requested a change of table, only to be met with a surprisingly hostile response from the waitress. Her reaction, an angry glare, was not only unwelcome but also unprofessional, culminating in a flat refusal to accommodate my simple request. This experience was jarringly out of character for a place I've come to know for its quality service and welcoming atmosphere. While I have always enjoyed the food here, the treatment I received during this visit was a stark reminder that good cuisine can only be truly enjoyed alongside equally good customer service. It's disheartening to find such a lapse in hospitality, and I hope this feedback serves as a constructive reminder to uphold the standards that many of us have come to appreciate from this...

It's dirty and untidy, and the tables are left unbussed for far too long. I've been there twice for lunch and both times the restaurant was no more than 1/3rd full, yet nearly every empty seat had unbussed dishes at it.

There are restaurant and cleaning supplies stacked in various locations, visible to customers, including a dirty looking vacuum cleaner.

The man running front-of-house doesn't appear to know exactly what he's doing. I don't think he's been trained well -- e.g. he'll get distracted from delivering drinks to one table because another asked for a cheque. He needs to learn to finish the task at hand before moving on to the next.

The chef seems nice enough and the food is pretty good. Judging the food alone, I would say that if I were going out for a sushi dinner, I would probably choose a better restaurant. If I'm just looking for a sushi or bento lunch, then Mika is fine, assuming they either clean it up or you don't...

STANDARD SUSHI UPDATE: Inconsistent service, inaccurate delivery of order, and very slow to allow for payment. What used to be a good spot for a quick lunch break meal is now not. The fancy authentic sushi spot a block away wouldn’t seat me even with open tables so I walked over to Oishii Mika to try it out. This is a very good “standard” Portland sushi bar and an awesome place to grab a lunch bento. They get their fish from the same vendors most other spots do (I only know of a couple that fly their fish in from Japan). The creamy scallop handroll is among the best I’ve ever had. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine and I tend to order it at each new spot. Bento was phenomenal. Very reasonably priced and each item perfectly prepared. I will try the Saba bento next time for sure.

June 2022 - Overall would not return. Food/Pricing - Reasonable prices but not for the quality of sushi. The rice in the rolls didn't seem fresh but presentation was nice. Service/Ambiance - Three or four tables. The server was friendly but she was the only one that was friendly and forgot to give us chopsticks. The rest of the staff pretty much ignore you. They were also speaking to one another loudly in Chinese and Cantonese. At one point it sounded like they were arguing and one of the staff kept saying multiple times (and very loudly) that they were closing. Well you don't need to tell me twice. So unprofessional and not a nice environment to eat. I did see people getting takeout so that might be the best option if you want to try the place. No more for me tho.
