Being new to Seattle and being gourmet ice cream lovers we have heard from countless people how amazing Molly Moon's is. My husband and I went on a date and were so excited to finally try this amazing ice cream. We pulled up and saw the line out the door almost wrapped around the block. "Wow, this place must be really fantastic" we said to each other. After waiting in line for 30 minutes smelling waffle cones being made and browsing at all their cute swag for sale and wanting to buy all of it to commemorate this amazing ice cream experience we finally got to the front to pick out our flavors. I got a double scoop of their seasonal flavors (orchard blondie and Jamberry crisp) in a waffle cone and my husband got a sundae with salted caramel ice cream. It came to $17, but we were both confident this would be worth every penny and $17 was really a steal. First bite was okay, "it will get better we both thought. Um it's not getting better...this actually isn't that great at all. This salted caramel tastes like I'm eating frozen salt." My husband actually threw his ice cream away. He has never in his entire life thrown ice cream away. Orchard blondie actually had no flavor at all. It wasn't sweet, it wasn't bitter, it seriously wasn't anything except for a milk flavor and a frozen chunk of icy peach every so often. Jamberry crisp was the best out of the bunch but it was more semi-sweet jam flavor than crisp. It wasn't gross by any means but was it amazing? Hell no. Tillamook has a berry crisp flavor that is so much better. Or better yet go to cold stone and get sweet cream with berries and graham cracker and it will be tastier and half the price. I'm all about supporting local businesses but I have to draw the line at this place. This ice cream was not amazing or good. It was not worth $17, it wasn't even worth $5. It was a huge rip off. I want people who don't have $17 or more to spend on ice cream for their family to go here and be let down like we were. Go support another local food place that...
Read moreLiving in downtown Redmond, I've been to Molly Moon more than a handful of times and I will say it finally deserve 4 stars. Up until my most recent visit, I've actually dislike going to Molly Moon due to two main issue:
I dont know when the owner of Molly Moon finally got it in their head to show you a screen when you're checking out of what they're charging you. Every time I've come to Molly Moon in the past they always seem to f-up my order when i'm paying. Part of the reason for this is they use to have one person fulfill your order and another worker would ring you up and for some reason I would always get up-charged... which I assume its was just shady business practice.
I love, love, that they're doing samples again! This is because almost 85% of their menu, isnt to my taste i.e. Honey Lavender or sweet cream, or most of their seasonal flavors. I refused to go for a long time during the pandemic since they didnt do sample - I could not commit to over paying for something that I most likely...
Read moreGreat ice cream! I love the dairy-free options, even though they're pretty limited. They typically have 1-2 dairy free options in the rotating monthly flavors (always sad to see a good flavor go), and unfortunately they recently removed the permanent dairy-free option which is super unfortunate. Dairy-free milkshakes are also possible, and they give free coconut whipped cream on them (which has a strong coconut taste, but I enjoy it). I wish there were more options for people who can't have dairy, but they're already doing better than many other ice cream places.
The ice cream is always very soft, meaning it'll begin dripping within only a minute or two. I would recommend immediately finding a seat in the park to eat your ice cream.
Like others have said, there tends to be a line here, and the line can be 20+ people long on warm evenings, but it moves really quickly in my experience.
The ice cream is definitely pricey, even for this area. They do advertise fair wages and sustainable practices, so it's something I can easily justify from time to time. If you also live nearby, consider getting the gift cards at Costco which...
