This is a mom n pop ran family business. It's just the both of them churning out the food, Monday - Friday 10am-2pm. The place is tiny and divey. Emphasis on the divey part. It's counter service with some outdoor patio seating. It's always busy during the weekday lunch with a line out the door. The line moves relatively quick though.
The menu has Vietnamese, Chinese, and American options with the likes of shrimp spring rolls, banh mi, teriyaki chicken, fried rice, Vietnamese beef stew, burgers, and fries just to name a few. Food is basic and tasty. Classic fare. I've had their banh mi, both the grilled chicken and grilled pork. $7.99. The sandwiches are loaded with meat and are a hefty size. The meat is tender with good flavor. The baguette is classic banh mi. Soft interior with crunchy, flaky top crust. Top notch, I have also ordered the Vietnamese beef stew. The broth is pretty darn tasty, it has the classic tangy bright profile. The chunks of braised beef is tender and fork shreddable. If you order this, just be aware it will take longer to prepare because they will need to heat a batch. They use a pot on the stove and not a microwave for that. The stew is served with a whole baguette, the same ones used for...
Read moreA popular lunch time spot. It's a small mom and pop corner place that's more counter than dining area, but there is also some spaces right outside. Place is managed by a friendly, efficient duo. Definitely a contender to be a regular place for lunch.
Banh mi is probably the most popular order. Can't go wrong with the pork or chicken. It's not entirely authentic, and it's clearly enough advertised as such, but it importantly satisfies cravings. I recommend a side of fries; freshly fried hot, thicker than McD's, and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. The coffee is made surprisingly traditional, iykyk, and is condensed milk heavy which is unexpectedly fitting for those who want something less caffeine forward by noon and for those with a sweet tooth. The typical American dishes appear standard fare.
Overall: 5 stars because it's the go-to place in the immediate area...
Read moreReally this should be more like 3.5 stars. If you haven't been here before, it's a walk up counter to order with 4-5 barstools on a small counter opposite the food area. There are a few tables outside (where I usually sit) and extra seating upstairs; I've never gone up there though. The menu is on the small side but it's a good mix and there are daily lunch specials. It's a decent value, the food I've gotten here has always been good and flavorful. The owner is a warm, friendly Vietnamese fellow, occasionally hard to understand through the accent but always happy to see you. Only open for lunch, definitely worth...
