Environment: 5 stars--very hip but relaxed basement speakeasy vibe.
Service: 3.5 stars--NOT very packed on the Friday night we went, but service was a bit slow. Waiter was polite. Brought out room temp water, no ice. Later brought out ice water for 2nd round. Took them forever to get a basic dessert out "because it's made from scratch" (words of the waiter)...lol...good to know you didn't buy cobbler from a store pre-made?
Drink Menu: 2 stars--bourbon menu is top two or three in Utah for variety of options, but still very misleading. The first 2 to 3 things I asked for weren't available. Maybe update the menu? Convo was: "Oh I'll have this! Oh don't have that? Ok this one! Nope, not that either?...okayyy this? You'll check? K great." But of course they haven't updated their menu online either to reflect availability, which displays several highly sought out options (Blanton's, Stagg, etc) that lured me there in the first place...Whiskey Street won't play this trick on you. OH AND GUESS WHAT? If you visit their site to check out their menu, don't be surprised when everything is a couple dollars more expensive on their menu in house than online. BAIT AND SWITCH, ANYONE?
Food: 2 stars. Honestly the dessert was lower quality than what the average person could make at home, but to be fair, we only ordered one food item. Won't be ordering more though!
Prices: 1 star. Drinks are absurdly expensive. $10 for a tiny pour of what would cost $40 for an entire bottle in the state liquor store. Oh..and not the full 1.5 oz pour like you'd get at most bars in Utah, more like less than an 1 oz...because....??? We ordered 3 whiskeys which were served in glencairns. Both the person I was with and I commented on how low the servings were. I tested in my own glencairn at home out of curiosity and 1 oz was definitely more than what they gave us in each of the 3 servings.
Would I go back? Probably not, and too bad because the atmosphere is great and they do have a pretty expansive menu (or maybe they fluff it up to represent more than what's really offered in order to reel you in). This place falls far short of...
Read moreI hope a manager sees my feedback and actually cares. I thought about calling in to share my experience with a manager but after reading the reviews I get the impression that management doesn't seem to care. Last night my husband and I went here for my birthday. None of the staff members were very engaging. The guy at the door barely looked up at us, our server barely even blinked at us (sorry to say but NO personality whatsoever), and some sort of manager swung by to ask how everything was but didn't actually stop he just asked how things were going as he continued walking by. Had any of the staff been a little more engaging we might have shared our disappointment while we were there... But I definitely got the impression they couldn't care less. We got totchos, which were good. I mean tots with cheese how can you go wrong? My husband got a Margherita flatbread pizza which seriously resembled some Lean Cuisine TV dinner type of thing. Very bland, very weird, and definitely inedible. I got a Cobb salad... or at least that's what it was called on the menu. It was the strangest salad.. shredded iceberg lettuce with some sort of vinaigrette dressing already tossed in so the lettuce was really gross and soggy. All the toppings looked decent but tasted like it was all prepackaged. The whole thing just tasted like a cheap 7-Eleven salad. Only about 5 minutes after getting our food we ask for the check which should have been a red flag to the server but, again, he seemed very disinterested in us in general. I've waited tables so that factors in and often causes me to give a lot of forgiveness when the service is off... But if a server AND manager fail to notice you barely touched your food, that's just straight up poor customer service. Neither of us are picky eaters whatsoever. I always joke that it is disgusting the things that I will eat because I will eat virtually almost anything. It ended up being a very disappointing way to spend sixty bucks on my birthday. The menu looks nice and has some fancy options so I was surprised at the poor quality of the food. Two big...
Read moreSuper love their bourbon selection out of everywhere in SLC. I’m often super disappointed when I go somewhere else and get drinks and I can’t customize them with different types of whiskeys like I can at BH. I have made a few close and personal friends with some of the people who have worked there in the last year, and just about every single person who works here knows me by name and always asks how I’m doing and will chat with me the entire time I’m there if it’s not outrageously busy.
Their bartenders are really genuine and cool. Their management on the other hand (until this week) have been AWFUL. Every 1-2 months it seems managers were being fired after pissing off customers and abusing the servers and bartenders under them. The recent chick was always drinking on shift in front of customers at the main bar (seen it first hand multiple times) and tried to implement a rule that if you knew a bartender outside of them being at work, then you would be kicked out if you tried to come in, even when you were there to watch a game and have some drinks and even when you and said bartender didn’t even interact to keep things extra professional. It seemed like she only had this rule if you were a girl though and the bartender was a guy. 🙄
I NEVER saw her doing her job or helping out when others needed an extra hand. The entire vibe has improved since she has left. It’s just sad that she was allowed to be there for a couple months and got away with firing some of the best bartenders there before they got rid of her. FINALLY the owners have made one of the bartenders the new manager, somebody who understands how things run and listens to other employees and is a quality person.
Lastly have to gas up a certain bartender, Thomas, because he’s hilarious and sociable. Love that even when a manager was on the floor, the staff still pointed to Thomas when a customer asked who was managing tonight. He’s passionate and knowledgeable in a lot of areas but especially whiskey. He’s always kind even when customers are behaving rudely. Oh and he’s super...
