Forgot to take photos I was too busy eating, drinking, laughing, and licking my fingers.
No clue how I haven’t tried this spot before now. It was spectacular. The “Asian fusion” was so spot on. I was full but made myself make room because everything was so ridiculously delicious.
It’s a smaller place, so if you’re lucky enough to get a spot, or you think ahead and make a reservation, you HAVE to make it count.
I’ve eaten foods from various cuisines my entire life and this is one spot I am tempted to gate-keep just to make sure I can always get in! (Don’t worry, I won’t.)
The butter chicken wings were such a surprise. They were hot and stayed hot, right amount of spice, amazing flavor, and the skin stayed so crispy! I thought I made the best Brussels sprouts, but theirs blew me out of the water. We tried so many other plates I can’t even keep them straight. But each one made my tummy feel so cozy and happy without making me feel heavy or greasy.
Even if it’s hot outside, don’t skip the dumplings. They will make you feel like you’re a little kid again, home “sick” from school, watching the price is right with your grandma. They are so comforting you’ll want to cry even if you’re not emotional.
Same goes for their homemade Chicharrones, the scallop and pork belly skewers, their house made pickled veggies, any of the sliders, and their desserts that all taste like someone has been in the kitchen all day preparing them perfectly with love.
I wish I had photos to share, everything was just too delicious to You can’t really go wrong with Lake Effect. No matter the day or time, if they’re open you’ll be taken care of. Even their “late night” menu is well prepared and delicious. (I’ll admit I would pay big money to have one of their amazing charcuterie boards on the late night menu…but I’ll survive.) It’s such a cozy feeling place even on the days it’s packed and busy. You can find the right vibe for your...
Read more5 stars for drinks and for the ability to order Takashi's sushi. 1 star for food, so I think meeting in the middle at 3 stars is fair.
Drinks were great and my friends really enjoy this place for their drinks, particularly whiskey, and they usually order sushi. We joined them and decided to try some of their food. I think it's overpriced and the flavors were completely off. We had a king crab slider and my husband liked it, but I thought it was too fishy, and that's fine and is just my preference. Then, I ordered 2 other sliders and the "Sweet Rolls" plate. I did NOOOOOT know that the sweet rolls were anything but sweet and were not a roll at all. It's meat on top of....something strange. Our friends legit commented that it looked like dog poo. And upon tasting it, it was not enjoyable. The "sweet roll" is a deep fried piece of meat. Fatty meat. And when eaten together with the stuff on the bottom...no bueno. The sliders I got were the brisket and chicken katsu. SO CONFUSED. First off, both buns were extremely soggy because of the amount of sauces on them. Both had mayo, I believe, and either one or both had bbq sauce. It was utterly confusing to have bbq sauce on the katsu....I've never heard of that before, and it didn't taste good. The brisket was chewy and hard to eat. I ended up just scraping off the sauces and eating the meats. $6 a "slider" and the king crab slider was $15 but MUCH better than these other ones, and came with some tasty sauces and chips on the side.
Old fashioned's were really great.
Got the chocolate tarte for dessert. Nothing special, but apparently it's flourless so considering that, it was...
Read moreWalking in, I was enamored with the atmosphere and the cocktail I ordered was phenomenal. However, that’s where the praise ends. Our server was not happy to be there and made it clear through her curt service and unwillingness to be jovial and helpful in navigating the menu, as well as her body language both at and away from our table. Of the five dishes, the only one I’d order again was the hamachi ceviche. The beef heart was not memorable, the pig ears were undercooked, the shiitake mushrooms were missing an acid to tie the umami and savoriness together, and the woodear spring rolls were cooked in oil that was not hot enough. It’s a shame, because Takashi is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in town, and I wanted this to be a place that I frequented. Fortunately, there are plenty of bars with great service, food and cocktails within walking distance. Give it a try, hopefully you have a better experience than I did, but don’t expect Takashi level of...
