Nomnomnom. I came to Salt Lake City far too early for an event, so I went for a wander around the city. Also, I was hungry and it was freezing, so the wandering tended towards food. I was on a block where it seemed every other restaurant was either closed or served sandwiches, and was feeling vaguely discouraged when I saw the big sign for ramen930 across the street.
What?
Ramen?
Where I can WALK TO IT RIGHT NOW?
Yes, please.
I went in and was pleasantly greeted, then given time to check out the menu, which is artistically painted on the wall. It's easy to figure out and the selection is full of my favorite Japanese comfort foods. Even takoyaki! (one of Japan's best ever street foods, and not easy to come by in the States).
I nearly ordered the entire wall, I was so excited.
But, I spotted my favorite ramen - tonkotsu, with real twenty hour pork bone broth and real ramen noodles.
I used to have this dish with my mom whenever we had girl's nights together in Japan, and suddenly, I really missed my mom.
And oh my golly when the ramen was ready (really quickly!), it smelled just like the ramen we used to have. And I just sat there in front of it for a good long while, savoring the scent, wrapped in nostalgia. For this especially, thank you.
And then of course I ate it and it was DELICIOUS. Yummy and comforting, the broth went straight to my heart and the toppings were perfectly chosen (and healthy, too - I just realized I forgot to note what they were - sorry!) to mix well with the texture and flavor of the noodles and the broth.
I drank it down to the very last drop.
When I left, one of the staff wished me a good night. The whole time I was there, I felt like I was back in Japan again, sharing ramen with my mom in a friendly place.
Oh, I've gone maudlin, so I better stop here.
Summing up:
Ramen that smells like real ramen and tastes like real ramen because it is real ramen, and lovely service to...
Read moreToday, I went to Ramen930 and had a perfect experience. We love ramen, and have been to every ramen place from downtown Salt Lake all the way to Provo. Their new downtown location is so open spaced compared to their lehi location. It is also in a convenient place facing the street. I LOVE the new location.
Drew, one of the owners, was there yet again to greet us! He took our order, and had a friendly conversation with us. We sat down and no more than 2 minutes later we had our ramen and appetizers. Bam, that quick.
I ordered the Black Garlic Pork and my wife ordered the Curry Ramen.
Their Black Garlic Pork is THE BEST RAMEN I have EVER had!!!!!! The broth isn't too salty nor does it have too strong of a smokey flavor like some places. The pork is just right, tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Balanced even with the garlic! The noodles are delicious and egg based! I also enjoyed the added seaweed! Drew even hooked me up with am extra piece of that delicious pork. Thanks, man!
They go through a lot to prepare the pork and broth you know? 24hrs for the broth. These people are dedicated and have better ramen than every sit down, fine dining restaurant I've been to.
We were even greeted by one of the cooks who told us all about the prep it took and how much she loves doing what she does. She is great at it!!!
This quick food restaurant delivers devine quality in a timely, and friendly manner with a chill urban vibe. They...
Read moreThis place was going two stars, but after seeing the pictures of their food they get one. The reason is, because I did not get a normal plate, I got a to-go plate that hardly had any broth, and a to go plate with my Takoyaki. They don't have chili oil or Sriracha, I mean really? Not a great start if the presentation on their advertising is completely different from what you get. But let's talk about the food. I was very disappointed with the broth, it was laking flavor and it tasted as if it came out of a package. The noodles were very bland and no flavor at all either, the mouth feel was weird as well. Over all not worth the zodium spike that you get, and I have had way better ramen from a package store bought one anyway. Their pictures also show a nice piece of charsiu pork. However, I got some.sheded pork from their cupbop place that had no business being there, because it had a different flavor that did not paired well with the broth. The takoyaki was a little better. The flavor was ok, but there was no octopus (tako). Correct me if I am wrong but, tako is half the name.of the dish, so I am sure it needs to be present. Over all, no flavor on the food, ok ambiance, but I won't be going back. I am not trying to be rude at all, I am just providing my honest review. So if you are looking for a good ramen place, keep looking, because this...
