My friend had made a booking for 6 of us on the roof terrace on a sunday night. We arrived at our table on time. There was no lighting so we couldn’t read our menus without using the light from our phones. Our server gave us menus told us he was going to get a fan to cool us down and bring us some water. He said he would be right back.
It was 30mins before we got water which wasn’t replenished much during 1hr35mins we were without food. It was 45mins before our cocktails were delivered. 1hr 15mins waiting for our wine when it eventually arrived it was the wrong bottle. It took 1hr before our order for starters was taken and another 45mins before they were served. They were not cooked starters, we wanted the sourdough but that was substituted for focaccia which had been chargrilled to try and pass off as chargrilled sourdough and a meze platter both were substandard. Our main course order was not even taken until after our substandard starters had been served and only after repeatedly asking to place an order for mains. Then we were told that there were four items on the menu that were not available. Our main courses were not served to our table until 22.05pm and even then only three plates were served. The remaining three main courses were served 20mins later. We were not even offered a desert menu.
There were three or four smaller tables that arrived after us and were “wined and dined” before we even got our main courses.
Our server was very apologetic but clearly overstretched. I felt sorry for him.
He said the owner is Australian and would be glad that one of his “country men” was dining in the establishment. As much as I love Australia and its people I am very much English! We live in Savannah and have wanted to visit this restaurant for a while as we love the Fitzroy that we have visited in Australia. Our Fitzroy experience in Savannah was beyond disappointing.
Despite a very disappointing evening we still paid a bill for $360 I look forward to hearing from the owner with their comments about our evening.
The roof terrace is nice but could do with some lighting so that you can see who you are sitting with and so that you can...
Read moreRecently went to The Fitzroy for my birthday with my husband. Walking in is a vibe. It is modern day chic and is beautiful inside; however, the food was horrible and although a beautiful restaurant, the layout and functionality of the setup was uncomfortable. Our waitress was wonderful, timely, and very quick to check on our table. The entrees however were very displeasing. I got the chicken schnitzel and it comes with a salad. Anyone who knows me, knows I am not a huge fan of salads but the salad was the star of the meal, as the chicken was burnt and inedible. I will note our appetizer, the poutine, was very delicious. Both my husband and I felt it was a nice, hearty, fresh appetizer. Truly the worst part about the entire experience is the layout. The restaurant gives glass bottles to pour your own water. Both my husband and I were playing tetris trying to fit our plates, the flowers, the candle, the drinks, and the bottle of water at this table. It was very uncomfortable. The tables sit on top of each other, so there is only inches between you and the individual eating behind you. If you are looking for somewhere comfy, I would ask for the half booth as the chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Since this is Savannah, we were looking for a restaurant to sit, have dinner, and talk over drinks. Unfortunately, we were ready to leave soon after we arrived. I will note the menu items are priced decently high for the food being subpar. I did a lot of research between reading reviews, looking at the website, and watching tiktok reviews. The reason I chose this was based off the reviews and the food displayed on their website. I was disappointed to learn the waitress had never seen the picture on their website made at the store. Overall, with all the above noted, our experience here was very disappointing and we will not...
Read moreWe began our meal with drinks. I had a Great King's Street Scotch on a 'rock'. One large ice cube that lasted until the Scotch Double was gone. Brilliant idea for an ice cube! My wife had. 'Winter's Coming', another excellent choice! We shared a Cheese and Charcuterie. This was outstanding. We forgot to take a picture until after we finished it. No point in showing an empty plate. We had excellent service and attention from Lena and Josh. We moved on to the Market Fish. It was a Sea Bass with Salsa Verde. So tasty! We finished with coffee and the Strawberry Passion Fruit Cheesecake. So good! My wife took a bite or two before I snapped the picture. We didn't get a picture of the fish either. I am older and frankly not used to snapping pictures of my food before eating it. We will probably return to the scene of the crime. Happy Hour starts at 3 pm. Update...we went back for happy hour. We recommend the Whiskey Smash and the clams. Oh my that was good! We forgot to take a picture before we ate them...they smelled so good! Update to the update...on our last night in Savannah we returned to the Fitroy. We started with Happy Hour. We were introduced to the people that made the great food possible. This restaurant is like a modern day version of 'Cheers' with incredible food and service. We are looking into direct flights so that we can fly in for a weekend and have some great meals. We began with the Olive Plate and the Leek and Jack Cheese appetizer. We had the clams again. So tasty!!! We moved on to the Tomahawk Short Rib with Kim Chi and little potatoes and finished with a very light dessert. Lena and Josh and so many others made our meals outstandingly great and special. We look forward to seeing them...
