TLDR: Ordered food and found the food to taste inauthentic, when brought up to wait staff, they gaslit me and told me that their food was served correctly because "their Korean server said so". Take one search on Google images and they are clearly incorrect lol
I ordered a Korean army stew, and found the taste to be very off (extremely sweet) and usually Korean army stew comes with American cheese topped or mixed inside. I couldn't taste it in my soup and asked the staff if I could have it added, even if it was an extra charge.
They brought out shredded mozzarella cheese topped, seared with a blowtorch. I asked them to take it back and told them I thought it would be American cheese as I've had in other restaurants and as cooked from home.
After taking the soup back they told me that because one of their servers was Korean, he claimed that traditional Korean army stew doesn't have American cheese single added to the soup. I gave him the benefit of the doubt but after I left I was baffled - if you do one search on Google images and even on the Wiki page for the actual dish it explicitly mentions that American cheese is part of the dish, and images clearly show indicate it is the standard.
Staff does not take accountability and instead tries to justify a dish being served differently from most Korean restaurants and households as the customer being misinformed.
Also they make their food extremely sweet - it tastes very different from the last time I had visited 3-4 years ago. Only redeeming dish is their fried chicken - their soon tofu is just soup + tofu + protein with no...
Read moreI tried out the chicken wings that were half marinated and half non-marinated. It was so delicious, juicy, and crispy! Normally I prefer eating meat without saucy marinades, but this marinade wasn’t overpowering and complimented the chicken well. The portion was huge so I recommend sharing it with someone else. Otherwise you’ll have plenty of leftovers to last you for at least another whole meal or so. You can also ask for extra sauce to go! I did that so the sauce wouldn’t make the leftover fried chicken soggy.
I also sampled a piece of my friend’s spicy rice cake dish/appetizer and it was spicier than I expected, but still very delicious too! My friend was sweating a little at the end because it was quite spicy. She said it was spicer than the last time she went here, so seems like the spiciness level can vary.
Seems like the portions here are huge in general. The appetizers are meal sized. My friend got the cold noodle “appetizer” to go to bring back for her husband’s dinner.
Ate here at 5:30PM on a Friday night and there wasn’t a wait, but it filled up very quickly soon after. Went another time on Saturday night around 6:40PM but left early because we were too hungry to wait 40+ minutes for a seat. I would recommend making a reservation if you want to eat here on the...
Read moreEven though I am Vietnamese, I love Korean food with all my heart. I joke with my Korean friends (and husband), just call me Su-chan, because banchan dishes are the way to my heart. After a super intense week, all I wanted was soon dubu. I found this place close to the Rep theatre where I was headed to a matinee. The Chois have executed very delicious Korean food IN Seattle, which has been hard to find. All the good stuff is in Lynnwood or Federal Way. But Stone Korean is right on Dexter and the Seafood Soon Dubu has a wonderful broth, head-on shrimp, cute baby clams, and a silky tofu texture. The banchan were all well executed. Fish cake, my fave, was bright and springy. Sweet potato was tender but not mushy (meaning nicely done), kimchi had that extra ooomph that makes me nod to myself as if I am doing small talk with the fermented cabbage, and even the mayo based cabbage, I liked! I usually steer clear of those ones but this wasn’t glooped on. It was thinned out with a light vinegar and has small slivers of sliced apple, making a double crunch with callbacks to sweetness. Great music, fast service, and no bs charge for tea. Def coming back and bringing...
