Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Tanoor Seattle with a large group of friends, all of whom prefer a vegetarian diet. Our experience was a delightful exploration of Lebanese cuisine, marked by some standout dishes and a few that were more modest in their appeal.
Highlights of the Meal
The best part of our meal was undoubtedly the hot and fresh pita bread, served straight from the oven. Paired with hummus and olive oil, it was a simple yet incredibly satisfying start to our dining experience. The falafel sandwich was another highlight, offering a perfect blend of crispiness and flavor that left us wanting more.
Mixed Impressions
While the pita and falafel were excellent, the grilled vegetable plate from the entree menu was just okay. It didn't quite stand out, but it was a decent option for a lighter meal. The lentils and rice dinner, however, fell short of expectations. To my East Indian palate, it was somewhat bland and could have benefited from a bit more seasoning and spice.
Finishing Touches
We concluded our meal with Turkish coffee, which, to be honest, was not quite to my taste. Perhaps it requires an acquired taste, but I found it to be just okay.
Final Thoughts
Despite a few less impressive dishes, Tanoor Seattle offers a variety of flavors that are worth exploring. The fresh pita bread and falafel sandwich alone make it worth a visit. If you're in the mood for a new culinary adventure, I recommend giving Tanoor Seattle a try at least once.

Read moreThis place serves some very solid food at excellent portion sizes I had the Cocktail Man'oushe - Lebanese flatbread made with Za'atar spice and Akkawi cheese, with beef & lamb shawarma on top.
First, though, they brought out the basket of free pita bread, which was excellent. These were practically spheres of dough, compared to the flat pita bread you normally see. They were just so amazingly fluffy. The outside was grilled basically the perfect amount. I also really liked the za'atar & olive oil dip these came with - the spices were excellent. Also, they brought out another basket before we'd even finished our first.
Onto the main course - this ended up being pretty massive. The flatbread was almost the size of a full pizza, and it was smothered in meat The combination of the cheese and olive oil spice layers was truly special. I've never had Akkawi cheese before, but I absolutely love it now. It's creamy, salty, and tastes astonishingly good. The layer before, though, was the spice mix, which was also so flavorful, combining different dried herbs to create an aromatic and complex taste. This layer, spread onto the dough before baking, adds so much more than your typical flatbread/pizza that just spreads the cheese after a more basic sauce.
There were a couple minor issues, though. One was the beef and lamb on top felt overcooked & over-charred. It tasted like they'd just been cooked for too long, and as a result felt dry and rubbery. Since they were small pieces, they weren't chewy, but you could tell the oven - which cooked the flatbread really well - was going to cook these way too much The other thing was this dish was just way too oily. There was just an excess of oil in the za'atar layer, and the bread & plate were practically soaked after each slice
