One of the most disappointing meals I think I’ve ever had, due in part to how much we paid. The atmosphere was beautiful and the service was fine, but most of the food we had was actually pretty terrible aside from the steaks and the wine. I will say that our fillets were absolutely delicious and the bottle of wine that we selected was one of the best ones I’ve ever had.
As for the service, this was supposed to be a celebratory anniversary dinner for us, but it did not feel very special at all.
The bread at the beginning of the meal was so tough and didn’t have a great flavor, it was almost rock hard, and very messy to eat. It was also served in barely-cut giant wedges, which made it even more difficult to eat, due to the very tough texture. Rock-hard butter as well.
My husband ordered a salad which he said was pretty bland and underwhelming, and he’s definitely not picky at all. He eats everything without complaint but even he had a hard time with our meal.
We ordered two sides to go with our meal à la cart, and the mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts were not good at all. (How do you mess up mashed potatoes??) The mashed potatoes just tasted like straight sour cream for some reason and the brussels sprouts were just not good enough to have more than a bite or two. On top of this everything was cold!!
We left them pretty much untouched, and our server didn’t say anything. (Of course I realize I probably should’ve spoken up)
We were so disappointed that we ended up skipping dessert and going to get ice cream across the street, since we didn’t want to risk overpaying like crazy for more food that was just not good at all. I’m really so surprised at how bad everything was. In all I think we paid something like $350 for the meal, and I’m upset about...
Read moreWe dined at Elways last fall and STILL discuss how horrible the service and experience. I finally decided to just write the review because it was worth saving at least one person a third-rate dining experience. We went for our anniversary and noted that twice in our reservation and to the host. We didn’t even receive a “Happy Anniversary” from a single person. Not a surprise they were so cold because as we’re eating, we saw a baby experience an emergency falling from it’s chair and the mother panicked and knocked down glasses and silverware on an EMPTY table trying to rush to pick up her child. The staff looked at her, rolled their eyes and annoyingly picked up the fallen silverware and glasses……
Too late for us to leave because we already ordered. We had a later reservation and knew that it was closer to closing time, but didn’t expect for the food to taste like it too. Everything was overcooked and dry. The menu itself lacks any kind of ingenuity or creativity. Could probably have a better, more exciting meal at a family owned steakhouse off the mountain. In the middle of eating entrees, our waitress asked us if we wanted dessert. We felt sick watching the child emergency occur and the callous of the staff and knew we were pretty much ready to leave once we finished our meals. We said “probably not” and she drops the check on the table, doesn’t say anything, and just walked away. There’s still food on our plates and she drops off the check. At this point, I wouldn’t even eat at the Elways in the Denver airport based on how uncomfortable and unappetising this...
Read moreA wonderful night to remember.
This was a surprise date night to my wife. I’ve booked this place over two weeks and after doing countless research on the best place in Vail for steak.
The service from Alejandra was fantastic. She was attentive and continuously wished my wife a Happy Birthday. More on this later.
We ordered a feast as we came into this meal hungry.
We both loved our steaks. So tender, juicy and oozing with flavor - we agreed that we were happy with our decisions on the filets.
The onion rings are by far the best in class. So tender inside but the thick beer battered outer layer still complimented the sweet vonion to perfection. I was shocked as most places who serve battered onion rings are a grease fest. These onion rings were a decadent experience.
The fries were okay. We both wished they were a little crisper.
The mashed potatoes are heavenly. Definitely a thick amount of butter was used in these to give a buttery flavor that hit tons of notes. It was a great side piece for the steak.
Lastly, the server, Alejandra served my wife a complimentary slice of the Decadent Chocolate Cake as a “Happy Birthday” present.
Such a nice touch of hospitality that we won’t forget.
It was a very moist cake with tons of rich chocolate flavor. Definitely a mist get.
Overall, the night was a success. Thank you to Elway’s for a magical end to our...
