Food was great but service was slow. Not sure if they are short staffed or what. Waitress was nice but once we got our plates she wasn't very attentive. Which could have been to shortage of staff. Noticed really quick that most places down in Va Beach automatically charge a gratuity up to 15-18%. And that's fine if the waitress/waitor isn't taking that for granted knowing either way they are going to get their tips and continue to service their customers appropriately. It also helps to advise the customer that the gratuity has already been charged. This particular establishment included gratuity charge for card users only. I feel it was a good thing by the time we ate here I had learned to check my ticket 1st as I was paying in cash. I questioned the waitress and the gratuity was removed from the bill. I left more than what she would have received initially on the table. But had I not caught it I wonder would she have received 2 gratuities? And how often does this happen with tourist that come from areas that don't automatically figure in gratuity? How often are tips being left on tables because they are unaware they have been charged a gratuity already on their bill? I understand the need for staff retention and this may seem like a way of guaranteeing your staff is properly tipped. But 1st and foremost your customers should be aware of your gratuity policies. And possibly the option to dispute it should you have staff that slack on customer service due to knowing they are going to receive the gratuity either way. It's not fair to your customers nor is it fair to the employee that actually does their job. Why should an employee that doesn't focus on customer satisfaction get the same as the employee that does? It's a debate. I know. Most of these employees work hard..and put up with a lot of rude people. I know..I been there. And I take everything into consideration from what the employee has control over to what they don't. They don't control the speed of the cooks..so how long it takes to get my plate I don't consider unless my food is cold when I receive it. Then that's a tall tale sign it had been sitting waiting to be picked up. Having my drinks refilled I will consider or how often I'm checked on or waiting to be served. For the most part they did ok. Again food was great . Service was ok just a little slow. But please people watch your tickets and make sure your not double tipping. If your server deserves more then tip as you deem...
Read moreTo begin in my horrible experience at this establishment, I was extremely hungry when visiting the Oceanfront and wanted to try something new. I came across Cactus Jack’s and wanted to try them! When seated in the restaurant our waitress took at the least 15 minuets to ask us what we wanted to drink. When our drinks finally arrived, my partners sweet tea was not at all sweet and watered down. When asked for a new drink, our waitress forgot. Finally, she came back and asked us what we wanted to eat. We simply asked for 2 appetizers. A plate of nachos with chicken and boneless wings. After waiting for about an hour, our food finally came out and both orders were wrong. They gave my partner bone-in wings and the wrong choice of sauce on them. I also did not receive my chicken on my nachos. During the meal, I asked the waitress if they took Apple Pay. She said that she did and handed me the bill. I got up to asked how can I pay with Apple Pay and she proceeds to tell me that they actually don’t take Apple Pay. This usually wouldn’t be a problem for me but I knew that I didn’t have my card or any cash on me at the moment and neither did my partner. This is what made the experience here even worse. We both tried to go to an ATM to withdraw money from our accounts but it didn’t work. Then, I decided that I could just get a gift card Visa to pay. That did not work either. It declined 3 times once activated. I had no other choice but to ask this nice couple could they pay for my meal in exchange for the gift card. Thankfully they agreed and I was so grateful. I told the waitress what the arrangement was and she went to talk to the couple. She then proceeded to tell the couple that they could not pay for our meal for whatever reason she thought was okay. (I would like to note both me and my partner are minors and have learned our lesson about not having our cards and having cash on us.) The waitress then got her manager and he said that he would take the Apple Pay under this one curium stance. I was genuinely so frustrated and I already let her know this was the only way we could have paid. I will never be coming back here after being treated like this. I am so utterly disgusted and hurt that someone would treat two...
Read moreWent here cause my daughter is not a big seafood fan. Alright I like beef too. Sat us at our table. First choice of drinks, they didn't have the correct alcohol. Not a problem I like all kinds. When we finally got our drinks, the daughters frozen strawberry was overflowing, and left a trail across the table. Look we have no napkins yet. So I asked our waiter could we get a couple napkins here, no problem. We just get into our drinks, and someone else is bringing out our food already. Wow that was quick. I ordered the brisket burrito, and the daughter ordered the steak burrito. Oh look we have no utensils. Where's our waiter? What seems to be 5 minutes go bye, or maybe cause I was starving. And I had this good looking burrito staring at me. A different waitress passes bye, and I asked her for a fork, and knife. I started digging into this sixteen dollar burrito, and was wondering where's all the meat. And even my 12 year old daughter said mine is skimpy to. As for taste mine was a little dry needed more sauce. The daughters steak burrito that I finished tasted much better. Then I get my check, 65 dollars for 2 burritos, and 2 drinks? I'm looking the bill over, and I see that they automatically give themselves a 18 percent gratuity. Wow! And theirs a blank line that says more tip. I'm thinking what if I didn't like my waiters services. I paid my bill with the 18 percent gratuity. As I'm walking out I asked the girl seating people. I'm from out of town, do they always automatically put in the gratuity in the bill? What happens if you don't like the service from your waitress? She told me that's what we do here, the sign is outside on the window. I said that will definitely bring more people in here, and I'll never...
