WHAT A JOKE! This place has an INCREDIBLE view of the stadium and could have a decent atmosphere. We attempted to make a reservation online before going up, but even when we tried even a wide range of times, it informed us they were booked. We decided to take our chances. (this was late night, hours after a game was finished) There are probably less than 20 tables to begin with. The solo waitress made a big deal that we had no reservation even though half the tables were open. Allowed us to sit at a table if we were going to be less than 45 min. Fine. You must order EVERYTHING through and app and you are forced to give a minimum tip of 18%. Im usually a big tipper, but based on service, I would have only given 10%. I ordered via the app. After about 10 minutes of noticing, the server, bartender and cook standing around, I mentioned to the server that I ordered drinks and food. They realized their Wifi was down and did not receive my order. While being there for around 45 min, at least 5-6 other parties came up and went through the same process as us. They told the server they tried to reserve a table. She allowed most to have a table if they were going to be quick. Food was ok (comes in a prepared box that has probably been sitting in a warmer. Drinks were good but way overpriced (which is typical, I know.) The only positive was we got to see a good view of the stadium and the music was good. Will...

I decided to go to 1st base with the chicken tenders, upgraded to tots and a Pepsi. Friends did the dogs with tots. Pretty normal offering of toppings with the dogs - ketchup, mustard, onions (raw red) and sauerkraut. They thought the dogs were good and the tots were yummy.
My tenders were actually very nice, super fresh and crisp- upon seeing my food and tasting a bite, they wish they'd have picked tenders too. I wasnt as thrilled with my tots, finding them slightly undercooked and seasoned.
Overall we are satisfied. It being on the top of our hotel was the deciding factor that got us to choose it after walking the Smithsonian for hours.
We both thought the Pepsi was a little odd tasting, but as an out of towner, I put this down to the tap water - however my friend got a glass of h20 and I tried it - hardly any "taste" at all....so I have no idea what's up with the soda.

Read moreLocated on the rooftop of the Hampton Inn & Suites, Top of the Yard is a solid spot to catch views of Nationals Park and kick back with a drink. The rooftop is outfitted with large comfy sofas, perfect for soups, and from the right angle you can even see the pitchers mound. The outfield view is partially blocked by solar panels, but it’s still a cool vantage point.
The drinks were surprisingly great and strong. A vodka soda ran me just $7.70, which is a steal compared to ballpark prices. My friends also let me know the food was good.
When it started raining, we were able to head down to the lobby with out drinks and wait it out comftorably. There’s also a small covered bar area on the rooftop if you manage to grab a seat.
Just a few blocks from the stadium, this is the perfect pregame spot, or even a fun way to catch the start of the...
