Went here last night for dinner with my husband. I lived in NJ for 29 years and always came here for a meal with my late father during our wildwood summer trips. I told my husband we had to eat here and I really regret it. We were sat pretty promptly but it took almost 20 minutes for our server to come by. You guys were busy so we absolutely didn’t get upset at that. She took our drink order (black coffee and an unsweet tea) and when she came back with those we put in our order. My husband got the fried flounder and I got penne vodka. We drank our drinks and they sat empty on the edge of the table. It took almost 50 minutes for our food to come out and my husband at one point asked if maybe they forgot about us… when she finally dropped it off (still empty drinks from the first time she stopped at the table we’re sitting there). I asked politely if we could have a refill and she told my husband if he wanted another black coffee it was an upcharge… for black coffee in the smallest coffee cup? He was like no it’s ok I’ll just get a Pepsi. She brought over our drinks and we started eating. Not once did our server come back around to see how anything was because if she did we would have told her how horrible the food was. My husband fish was dry and tasted like frozen fish sticks. It was gross. My penne wasn’t even hot meaning we were probably forgotten and it just didn’t taste right. We each took maybe three bites and were waiting for almost 20 minutes for her to come over so we could tell her and by the time she did we were just done and over this horrible experience. All she said after looking down and seeing neither of us touched our food was “do you want boxes” to which my husband said no the fish was really dry and didn’t taste good and she just said “ill get your check” not “hey can I get you anything different? Or wow I’m sorry to hear that, no anything. I was in food and bev for 12 years so this was really sad how she absolutely didn’t care. Our check came out and for those two meals we didn’t eat because they tasted horrible, a black coffee, unsweet tea and a Pepsi it was $66 dollars. I am so upset that a favorite wildwood staple of mine clearly went down hill and doesn’t care about their customers or food. We of course still left a tip even though we shouldn’t have based on the no actual service we received. I haven’t been home to visit in years since my parents passed so I was so happy to be here and show my husband my favorite spots but this experience definitely made me regret choosing to have...
Read moreAvoid at all costs. My family has been eating here for over 40 years. Sadly, no more. This place is ready to close its doors. As you can see by many other recent reviews, Schellenger's is extremely poorly managed.
We are not complainers and dread sending food back. My parents each ordered the filet and were surprised when it was so tough that it was impossible to chew. They brought it up to their server (who for the record, was great) and he spoke with the chef. The chef claimed it was a center cut. One of the owners came over and was appalled to hear that they couldn't chew the filet.
The owner picks up my mom's fork and starts sawing away at the steak to prove my mom wrong. In what world is it okay to grab a customer's utensil and touch their food at the table?
She proved the opposite, because the steak was just as tough as my parents claimed it to be. She said "I don't know what you want me to do, these are perfectly cooked filets and you're wasting food." My family absolutely never wastes food and we dread the rare time that we've ever had to bring up an issue when out to eat.
She takes their plates, walks away, and another woman comes over and refuses to take their meals off the bill. The meals that they did not eat due to them being inedible.
The first woman returns with their meals boxed up (Yeah, they're going to eat the already inedible food after it's been touched by the owner and sent back to the kitchen). They left the boxes on the table.
Not only did my parents pay $115 (before tip) for food they did not eat after the owners raising their voices at them, but they had to go find dinner elsewhere.
The third owner was equally as insolent and belittling as the others. When paying (for the food they didn't eat), my dad let her know that we had such great experiences in the past over the years bringing his mother there. It was one of our favorite places to come as a family. He said how disappointed he was to see things go so downhill. She showed nothing but disdain and was anxious for them to leave.
Schellenger's is managed by disrespectful and insulting individuals that are on track to run it straight into the ground. Check out their other recent reviews.
The waiter was excellent and deserved his gratuity. He was the only person to sincerely care and make an effort to be helpful and kind.
There are plenty of good restaurants in Wildwood and we'll be sure to patronize the ones that take pride in their food, service and basic...
Read moreI am a returning customer. I came in last night while my boyfriend and I were visiting for "Roar the Shore". We sat down with two other friends and our waitress came over she seemed fine, took our drink order and appetizer order. I got the Lobster bisque, my boyfriend got calamari and our friends ordered French Onion soup.
When the waitress brought our apps. She warned us the soup was very hot and to be careful (our soups were so cold they might as well have been call gazpacho) While she was still present I reached over to my boyfriend calamari and the sauce dropped off onto my chest. I have never had calamari with a marinara that was over the temperature of "mildly warm" pursay. WELL, without warning the sauce dripped onto my chest and it took a good second to react because I think I was in shock. I grabbed a napkin and quickly tried to remove the sauce. Which burned my skin off the size of almost a quarter.
Long story short the waitress witnessed the entire thing happen, she did absolutely nothing to help me by offering ice or ANYHING at all. I'm more of a shy person and I wasn't exactly sure what to do, I don't like to come off as dramatic so I was nervous to make a scene, I grabbed ice out of a water and applied it to my burn which then made it feel even more painful. The entire time I was so uncomfortable, it didn't help that the waitress completely ignored me and my boyfriend addressed that when she came over to see if the group I was with needed anything she completely looked over me and walked away when in fact I was the only one who did actually need a refill.
I was so upset with the whole situation I asked to speak to a manager, a woman with dark hair came over claiming she was the owner. I asked if there was some type of incident report I could fill out Incase God forbid something really bad happend to my burn. She was so disrespectful, condescending and ignorant. I filled out nothing and asked for her information. She wrote down some chicken scratch for a name that I can not make out and offered not...
