Today I had the opportunity to have lunch at Old Hanoi Restaurant, a place that combines the elegance of a colonial villa with the most authentic essence of Vietnamese cuisine. My choice was the Cá Lăng hấp sương mù – Foggy hot stone steamed fish (crystal eyes catfish), one of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
The presentation itself is already an experience: the fish is served in a pot over hot stone, releasing a dense mist of steam that fills the table and awakens all the senses. Once uncovered, the aromas of fresh herbs and local spices anticipate a flavor that is both delicate and profound. First they said that inside was full booked and when we asked to be sited outside, first a lady said OK, then a man come, telling us that the kitchen was too busy and we should wait for more than an hour to be served. He told us that was better to not stay. We left the place after that. Is possible that the kitchen was too busy but the restaurant was not full even inside was more than half empty, outside only one table with customer and was 6:00 PM, not really late, how the kitchen can be busy? Then the way they approached us from the begin was really not...
