Read moreOne of the many more casual spots in Whistler for grabbing a drink and some food, this spot features a fairly extensive patio on the second floor of a building, offering some pretty solid views of the surrounding area.
My girlfriend and I arrived at around 530 on a Sunday and were seated pretty promptly, although it was still very busy. While our pleasant server greeted us fairly promptly, it was a solid 15 minutes before I got the beer I ordered. We did get an apology for that, so that was appreciated.
We had come for dinner - I ordered their signature bacon cheeseburger, and my girlfriend got the flatbread special, which happened to be a bacon mushroom goat cheese recipe with arugula and balsamic dressing. The food was much more prompt than the drinks, and was quite tasty. I'd recommend substituting the waffle fries for the truffle frites.
That said, the food menu was fairly limited in its selection - I was asked whether I wanted a food menu when I arrived, which tells me this place is geared much more towards people who want a few drinks. Certainly nothing wrong with that, just something to anticipate when choosing a place to eat.
An additional critique I'll provide is that one of the heat lamps on the rather chilly patio was inoperative, which isnt ideal when you're up in the mountains on a relatively overcast day
As we got ready to leave, tracking down our server for the cheque proved to be a challenge - I dont really fault the server for this, but rather the establishment for not staffing adequately.
All in all, a mediocre experience. This wouldn't necessarily be my first choice upon my next visit...
Read moreI have visited GLC a few times now over recent years. The location is excellent, with nice views onto the ski slopes. The setting on their terrace by the firepits is one of the better places to sit with friends to have food and drink. I have always found the food to be quite good - tasty and generous portions. My main complaint with this venue is consistently the service. One year the server was in such a bad mood that every question or request was met with visible displeasure. More recently, our server was very nice. But, then she was hard to track down and we had to go and find her to be able to order a drink. Later on, one of our friends visiting from abroad, without thinking went to the bar and ordered a drink. When our server discovered this, that we had ordered from the bar and not through her (Which I appreciate likely affects her tip received, but she wasn't around and our friends ordered at the bar without thinking), her demeanour could not have changed more. She became quite unfriendly and got us out as quick as possible. She insisted she could not split the bill in any way, but couldn't give any reason. This was a disappointing end to a nice evening at the bar, especially as we had to pay $100 just for the booking fee, to have us laughing about how comically rude the...
