The "Tower of all the towers" stands at the interface of I. and II. courtyard of the castle, above the so-called Hrádek (small castle), which is the oldest part of the whole castle-château complex. The cylindrical six-storey tower has a Gothic core, but was completed in the Renaissance style. The lower floor was built in the middle of the 13th century, the second floor, slightly narrower and separated from the lower part of the tower by a narrow ledge, is about a hundred years younger. The renaissance appearance was given to the tower by the completion in 1581, the author of which is the Italian architect Baldassaro Maggi from Arogno. The exterior decoration of the tower and Hrádek in 1590 is the work of the Rosenberg court painter Bartoloměj Beránek. Between 1994 and 1996, a major repair and partial reconstruction of the painting took place. The observation deck on the fifth floor of the tower is decorated with arcades on 19 columns, the banner at the top of the tower is set 86 meters above the surface of the Vltava. The view from the tower gallery is not worth describing, you have to experience it in person. You can combine a hike to the tower with a visit to an interesting castle museum, so a total visit to Hrádek and the tower will take you less than an hour.
Výhled z věžního ochozu nemá cenu popisovat, to musíte zažít osobně. Výšlap na věž můžete spojit s návštěvou zajímavého hradního muzea, takže celková návštěva Hrádku a věže vám zabere...
Read moreVery nice place, wonderful castle. We visited it on the 28th of December 2024 with a tourist group from Greece. The only negative thing I have to declare is about the lady who was responsible for the public toilets in the castle. She locked me in the entrance hall of the toilets, shouted at me, because I did not had 20 kcz or 1 € to pay for the toilet use, a few minutes later she kicked me out with a very bad manner, I rarely fell down.. Very “cold” and bad behaviour woman who does not know any basic word in English. I was trying to explain her that my husband keeps my bag waiting for me outside and I would give her the money right after I get out. But she could understand nothing. Many ladies were waiting outside of the toilet looking at us, I felt so...
Read moreInteresting exhibit, though it spends too much time on modern artefacts like accountants' desks and porcelain. The origin story of the nobles and the historical intrigue is quite fascinating. The view from the tower of the courtyard and the city is also wonderful. 4 stars.for that. Minus 1 star that a staff member from ticketing locked me in at 20 minutes before the closing time of 17:00. I frantically had to locate her to let me out through 2 locked doors. I had left the last 20 minutes for the tower and still had 15 minutes to do so when another staff member tried to prevent me from going up the stairs and then referred to me as a bad person when I went up and exited the museum entirely by 16:53. Writing this now at...
