Form over function - this is how I would describe the rooms at the Grand Hotel.
We got upgraded (sidegraded?) from the Pension Vltavit to the Grand without prior notice. Got picked up at the Pension after waiting for half an hour buy a guy who didn't know any English, who shuttled us to the Grand a few minutes away. It was very confusing, as we had no idea what was going on and the driver could not explain either. We were then led to the second building of the Grand located across the square, down an alley by the receptionist.
The rooms are newly renovated, and looks great. However they don't feel great. It's very cramped, the shelf at the end of the bed makes the bed too short for me, my feet touch the shelf and I'm not even a long guy. Same story with the toilet, it looks great, but when you sit down the sink is to close to the toilet, so you have to squeeze in between.
There's no shower curtain and nowhere to hang your towels. Again looks great, but is in reality not very functional.
The lights look very modern and you can adjust them to your liking with a myriad of buttons spread out through the room, but for some reason one of the lights in the bathroom cannot be turned off, the bathroom has a glass door, thanks to this you now have light that cannot be turned off shining into the bedroom. Looks great, but is it really?
The phone also has a big bright LED that's blinking at night, also very disturbing.
These little things add up to a less than great experience. But don't get me wrong, this place is absolutely fine to stay for a night, but I wouldn't want to stay a week.
Room was mostly clean, with some scrubbing needed on the bathroom floor, and the tub drain needs to be cleaned, the run-off is very slow. There's no elevator in this second building, it could be difficult to access for some people. AC was nice and cool, almost completely free of noise, a big plus in my book. However noise from the other rooms and the corridor is not sufficiently silenced, you will hear your neighbors very clearly. Breakfast was great, and the coffee was very decent. The room was equipped with soap, lotion and shampoo from Rituals,...
Read moreSuch a perfect location walkable for everything that you’re doing around here the room was really nice very updated all the luxuries that you need in a four-star hotel air-conditioning worked perfectly Plug-ins near the bed for all your iPads iPhones and whatever else you bring along the bed was comfortable the cleaning of the room was done well every day they have Basic shampoos soap etc no body lotion but they did give it to me when I asked⭐️negative bath tub which is very high so if anybody with not good abilities of legs this would be a problem hand held shower ! No safety bars also another problem would be if you can’t walk steps they do not have a elevator ( so book a lower floor)they did help us bring our luggage up thankfully we were on the third floor it was like doing a treadmill 3 to 4 times every day this whole city is full of hills so be in good shape to be able to do the daily walking and then to your room and back and the hills in the city ttelevision had one English channel which was CNN Breakfast was fine they had basically everything that everybody else has yogurt eggs cheeses breads fruit coffee etc but nothing for gluten-free We had some of our clothes wash which was very nicely done and they charge one euro for each piece which I thought was very fair we also ate in the restaurant that’s attached which is where we have breakfast and dinner one evening that was good they have patio seating which is great so you can sit in the middle of the main square that people have been using since the 16th century and have your breakfast or dinner !!pricey for dinner with all this said I must agree that this is a perfect location to spend a few days in this charming...

Location is perfect as it's right in front of the main square. What surprised me compared to other hotels was actually a fabulous selection of breakfast items - there was fish, sausages, eggs, veggies, even caviar and fruit.||Room was perfectly clean and during the night (22:00-00:00) it's quiet enough despite live music and other festivities happening right outside, as long as the window is closed. Minibar in the is absolutely packed with things as long as you're willing to pay for it! We grabbed a wine bottle from the wardrobe above the fridge, and were told at check out during payment that apparently people just steal those without paying, which can say a lot about some of the guests. We also got a surprise knock on the door to receive a full bottle of Prosecco with 2 glasses which we enjoyed during the 2 evenings. ||Only cons that I could find that may or may not bother other people: we did not have AC, but this was not a problem for us as it was neither too cold nor too hot. Second thing is that there is no elevator, so perhaps someone less capable may find it bothersome, for me it wasn't a problem. And third is that walls seem quite thin and you can often hear other people, e.g. showering or plugging things in/out. Lastly, blinds/curtains kinda still let the light through and don't completely block it out, which may be a problem for light sleepers.||If you're traveling here for the festival that takes place in June, and probably at any other time, this place is...
