The good: Good variety of interesting menu options! There were many things I wanted to try. Very nice location just off the main street, on the river. Shady garden seating. Was there with two friends, they both had salads that they said were good. Pretty good prices considering the location. Friendly staff! A novelty sometimes.
The bad: Service was SLOW. Extremely. When we sat down, no one brought menus to us and there were no menus on the table. I've been living in the Republic for two years now and this is not usual-- if the menus aren't on the table, someone normally brings them to you. After about 10 minutes I went to find some. There were only two menus to be found on the bar (our group was 3). We ordered a large bottle of water for us to share, which is also normal here. The waiter offered us a pitcher-- probably tap water, but that's no problem-- but he never came back to our table, and we never actually got the pitcher. Our food came half an hour after ordering, and we asked twice more for the water (it was a very hot day!), but nothing ever showed up. I ordered the couscous. It was far too salty (and, alas, no water), but otherwise quite good (with plums, olives, raisins, and cumin)-- except for the fact that there was a plum pit in three pieces in it. Most of the plums had been depitted except one, it seemed, and I didn't find out until I bit into one piece of it, then another, then another. My friend also found a hair deep in her mozzarella salad, and the other friend had ordered pita bread with her salad that came cold, stale, and tasting like it'd been bought a week old from Albert. I went up to pay and found they don't take credit cards. No signage that I had noticed about this (though I will admit I'm not the best at noticing signs). To their credit, the man at the bar was very friendly and had no problem letting me go off to find an ATM.
They offered kihr for dessert, which I love, but I didn't want to be stuck there for another hour waiting for it to come...
Ultimately the bad can mostly be chalked up to the restaurant just having a bad day, which I understand, as I work in a...
Read more(Cash only) Let's start with the good. This restaurant was highly recommended by our hotel concierge. The building hosting the restaurant brims with character and flair. You walk through the restaurant, enter the outdoor seating area, and are graced with a beautiful water stream. Our table was right along the bank, offering spectacular views of the castle, church, and tower. So, for atmosphere, I would give a rating of 5.
The service started off as you would expect. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication with a few of our dishes; we received one incorrect dish and two variations of another. When we explained we didn't order the erroneous dish, the waiter insisted we did and quite forcefully. He then stormed off to check his notes. In his defense, the dish we ordered and the one we received sounded similar, perhaps due to our American accents. However, after this incident, we didn't see him again. He didn't continue serving us or close out our bill.
A further issue, although not necessarily anyone's fault, was the limited table space that led to my drink being spilled. Disappointingly, it wasn't replaced, and no one took my order for another drink. So, I remained drinkless for the remainder of the meal. Due to these issues, I rate the service a 1.
As for the food, while it included fresh ingredients and a nice variety of options, it was unfortunately bland and unappealing to my palate. I was hoping for more flavor and seasoning from the dishes. We ordered a burrito, quesadilla, nachos, kung pao chicken, and lentil soup. The lentil soup was the only dish that proved flavorful and had a good spice to it. Given this, I also rate the food a 1.
Despite the positive reviews I've seen in a few blogs and the high recommendations, I wouldn't personally recommend...
Read moreThe best place in town for lunch! We loved loved it! The service was out of the world.. fantastic! You can walk in and find yourself a seat anywhere. They have seating by the river. There are benches and you have blankets on the benches to keep you cosy if it gets too windy or cold for you. The owner of the place David is super friendly and well travelled. We have our roots in India and he just sat down at the table with us and started talking about his travels to india and he really seemed very knowledgable knowing the details of each region / state in India. We were impressed and stunned by the hospitality. David is so full of life and positive energy.. We entered the restaurant tired and hungry and left it well fed, full of happiness and enthusiasm.. The best hospitality in our 10 day trip around central Europe and probably the best I have ever had. This place is a vegetarian restaurant and we ordered a large platter meal to try out various dishes. The platter was an indian platter with a variety of dals, curries, rice and bread. We also had some pasta sort with goats cheese.. I thought i'd remember the name of the dish but have forgotten it. We were a group of four and this was just enough for us along with a starter of some hot soup. One of our friends felt the food lacked salt but most of the others felt it was fine. Is absolutely a great place to eat and if I visited Cesky again, I would surely visit this place just to meet David if not anything.. Food was good but what left an unforgettable impression was David and his energy and hospitality.. You will always be...
