The Klausen Synagogue is nowadays the largest synagogue in the former Prague Jewish ghetto and also a single example of an early Baroque synagogue in the area. Today the synagogue is administered by the Jewish Museum in Prague. In 1570s a renowned businessman and benefactor of the ghetto, Mordechai Maisel, decided to build in the area of the present Klausen Synagogue a complex of buildings, probably including synagogues and a private Talmudic school. The famous Prague rabbi and scholar Maharal taught at this school. The complex was called Klausen (German term originating from Latin claustrum, closed space). In 1689, the great fire of the ghetto burned down all the Klausen and the synagogue is named after them.

The Klausen Synagogue is an important historical and cultural site in Prague, offering deep insights into Jewish history and traditions. The architecture is beautiful, and the exhibits provide valuable information about Jewish life and heritage.

I was initially shocked to see a Torah scroll displayed in a way that seemed disrespectful. However, upon closer inspection, I realized that it is a copy and not a real Torah scroll. This discovery alleviated my concerns, and I appreciated the effort to provide an educational exhibit without compromising the sanctity of a genuine Torah.

Despite my initial reaction, the synagogue's exhibits are thoughtfully curated, and the synagogue itself remains a vital part of Prague's Jewish Quarter. It successfully educates visitors about Jewish history and traditions while respecting the sensitivities of the community.

Overall, the Klausen Synagogue is worth visiting for its historical value and well-presented exhibits. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning more about Jewish...

A synagogue that functions primarily as an informative museum of Jewish culture. Located beside the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Klausova Synagogue contains artefacts showing Jewish culture, particularly religious culture. The descriptions here are quite well done.

Historical place. It's worth a visit for sure. Inside, you can admire different historical pieces and their related interesting history. It can be done as the first synagogue since the ticket office is placed right at the entrance.
