If you’re in Prague and craving traditional Czech food in a lively, no-nonsense setting, U Parlamentu is a great choice. Popular with both locals and tourists, this restaurant offers hearty portions, quick service, and a genuine pub atmosphere that gives you a taste of everyday Czech life.
I ordered the beef goulash, and it absolutely hit the spot. The dish came piping hot, with chunks of beef that were tender and soaked in a rich, dark gravy full of paprika and savory depth. It had that slow-cooked flavour you hope for in a proper goulash — comforting, bold, and deeply satisfying. The accompanying bread dumplings were soft and dense, ideal for mopping up the sauce and making sure not a drop went to waste.
The vibe at U Parlamentu is bustling and informal. Wooden tables, Czech chatter all around, and the clinking of beer glasses create a warm, energetic atmosphere. It feels less like a tourist stop and more like a real neighborhood spot — the kind of place you’d come to regularly if you lived nearby.
The service was fast and efficient — not overly chatty, but friendly enough and clearly experienced at handling the constant stream of guests. Even though the place was busy, I didn’t have to wait long for my food, and the entire experience felt smooth and well-organized.
While I didn’t have a drink this time, the pub is known for serving great Pilsner Urquell on tap, and many around me seemed to be enjoying it alongside their meals. I’d definitely come back to pair a beer with the goulash on a return visit.
In short, U Parlamentu offers a solid, satisfying Czech dining experience. The beef goulash was flavorful and filling — classic comfort food done right. With its friendly buzz, quick service, and traditional menu, it’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises: good food, good beer, and a down-to-earth atmosphere. A great stop for anyone wanting to eat like a local in the...
Read moreThe food is good but the visit left a bad aftertaste of scammy practics.
When the check came, the waiter was pressing to accept additional 10% "Service charge" I was about to agree, when I noticed, there was bread for 20 CZK included which we neither ordered nor ate during the dinner (later I learnt it is a common trick to confuse customers accepting checks in foreign language and currency as it's easy to miss). When called out on that position, the waiter, visibly annoyed, deducted it from the check (you can see it crossed out on the photo and the final amount on the payment confirmation matchin the balance without it). I asked to pay the base balance by card (why tip someone who just wanted to scam you?). Here I got scammed again. While the balance input in the terminal was in CZK, in which currency I intended to pay (I have a multicurrency card), the final transaction was processed using DCC on the restaurant's end and I was charged in my home currency at a worse rate (sellers usually receive comission from such transactions). I was NOT asked if I want to pay in PLN and noticed that only after leaving the restaurant (I attached a photo of payment confirmation that shows the DCC information).
To sum things up, the restaurant has decent food, good business (we had to wait for a table) but still chooses to scam their guests here and there for additional pennies. It's a shame because otherwise it would be a really nice place.
Edited to add after reading other reviews: out beer had also a big foam to beer ratio. It is not because the waiters are in a hurry. It's a known trick to "squeeze" more beers from a single keg. So yes, we had...
