I chose this hostel because it has a great location and it is extremely close to the main square. However, the service of this hostel might be the worst hostel service I ever encountered. I arrived in Prague around 7.45am. I walked to the 3rd floor of the building and noticed that it was locked and the note outside stated that reception will only be open from 9am. I decided to go to the cafe near the hostel and wait until 9am as I wanted to leave my backpack in the hostel. When it was 9am, I went up but no one opened the door even after I rang the doorbell repeatedly. I messaged the number and asked if I could enter the hostel to keep my backpack in the common room but throughout my 4 days stay, she did not respond to my messages. A hostel guest let me in when he saw me waiting outside. After waiting for about 15mins, I saw the grouchy blonde hair middle aged lady and she told me to come back at 2pm to check in. I came back at 2pm and once again, the reception room was locked so I had to wait in the common room until about 2.15pm. I wanted to wash my laundry but realised that guests have to ask the staff before you can even wash your clothes. I went back down to 3rd floor to look for blonde hair staff but once again she is missing and reception room is locked. I stayed for 4 nights and they did not replenish the toilet paper for 2 nights and everyone had to use the only cubicle with toilet paper. On my 3rd night, there was two ladies that checked into my room but we realised that the hostel overbooked and the girl was assigned to an occupied bed and she only found out about this at 10.30pm so she had no choice but to sleep on the sofa. There are also no power points and light near each bed so you cannot even charge your devices near your bed, which is extremely frustrating since there isn't enough power points for everyone in the room.
I realised that blonde hair staff is also in charge of changing the bed sheets and cleaning the rooms so that is why she is so grouchy. The hostel really ought to hire more staff since the hostel has so many rooms. Rooms may be spacious, beds are comfortable and lockers are huge but the room is soooo hot in summer as you cannot open the windows fully. I will not recommend this hostel even though location is great as checking in was a...
Read morei booked a bed in female dorm and from the pictures online i expected much worse from this hostel, however i was pleasantly surprised when i entered the room i was assigned to. it kind of had the vibe of a cozy attic, so it wasn't that bad. unfortunately there aren't many sockets, especially for the top bunks (they're way too out of reach), but thankfully i had my power bank with me. another issue was that despite keeping the velux windows open, the room didn't get enough ventilation and was too hot in some areas, it would've helped to have a fan nearby. the last two things i didn't enjoy during my stay was the dirtiness of the moquette and couch in my room, plus the nasty smell coming from the shared toilet (which is also not made clear on the website that it's shared). the kitchen was decently equipped and i even used it once. one thing i did appreciate was how the hostel stayed true to its franz kafka theme: all the rooms are named after a kafka work (our, for example, had "the trial" written on it), which is a cute idea. the service was nice, and the lady friendly showed us how things worked. one curiosity: the hostel develops between different floors of the same multi-function building. probably the strongest pro is the position, which is right in the centre of prague. all considered, i wouldn't come back here and i'd recommend it just in case you can't find a better one. instead, if you don't mind shared toilets, dirty furniture, kafka-kitsch interns and only care about staying in the centre without spending too much, this is the...
Read moreMade a booking/reservation via their website more than 2 weeks before my arrival. Like requested, I made a note that I'm arriving after their check-In time (closing at 8pm, my arrival was going to be at about 22:15).
I checked my mails at about 6pm on the date of my arrival. No E-Mail about what to do to check in, so I thought there is going to be someone.
So after 11 hours of car & bus driving to Prague I'm arriving at the hostel at about 22:15, totally exhausted & tired and so looking forward to my bed. And then? I rang the bell of the Franz Kafka Hostel. No one answered. I called them twice. No one answered. So I was there, alone, frustrated and scared because it was a Saturday Night. Am I going to find a place to stay tonight??? Because I couldn't get into the Franz Kafka Hostel that I made a booking/reservation for...
So with the help of my friends via chat I could find another hostel for my stay.
The next day I checked my emails and I saw that Franz Kafka Hostel e-mailed me. Instructions for me about what to do for my late check in. at 19:57 that day. Wow. I didn't check my mails that evening, why should I? Thinking that they probably would have emailed me not later than noon the day of my arrival. Also I didn't have Wifi to do that. They even had my phone number, so they easily could have...
