A Green Oasis Atop the Hill: Exploring Petřín Gardens

Prague's Petřín Gardens provide a verdant escape from the bustling heart of the city. Ascend the hill on the funicular, a charming funicular railway, for breathtaking vistas of Prague's architectural tapestry. At the summit, Petřín Lookout Tower, modeled after the Eiffel Tower, offers even more stunning panoramas.

For rose enthusiasts, a visit during the summer is a must. The rose gardens boast a vibrant display of colorful blooms, a fragrant delight for the senses. But Petřín Gardens hold charm throughout the year. A tranquil orchard with fruit trees and peaceful walking paths meander through the gardens, offering a chance to escape the crowds and reconnect with nature.

Beyond the scenic beauty, Petřín Gardens cater to various interests. History buffs can explore the Mirror Maze, a funhouse attraction with a long history, or the Švanda Theatre, known for its avant-garde productions. Hunger pangs can be satiated at the Nebozízek restaurant, located strategically at the top of the hill, offering delicious food and panoramic views.

Whether you're a keen photographer capturing Prague's beauty from a different perspective, a nature lover seeking a tranquil escape, or a family looking for a fun outing, Petřín Gardens offer something...

Walking through Petrin Gardens was a wonderful experience on a Sunny Saturday September afternoon. Despite it's urban location, exploring the park felt as though stepping into a rural idyll.

The park sits on one of the number of hills which shape ans characterise Prague. This elevation allows for vistas over the city and beyond into the bucolic countryside of Central Bohemia.

Many of Prague's most famous tourist spots can be viewed from both the park and especially the tower within it. It is, in my opinion, worth paying the 250czk (or 400 to take the lift) to scale this monster and get a true appreciation of the scale of the city and it's surroundings. You'll likely only be here once so why not.

After this experience I would recommend lingering a while in the park. I chose to ameliorate this experience further by drinking a delicious locally brewed coconut hazy ipa and having a few snacks I'd picked up from shops nearby, but there are a number of cafes and other food outlets in the park should the want or need take you.

I will note that this park may be difficult to traverse for those with mobility issues due to the number of stairs and uneven surfaces present here. Children may also find this tiring but I imagine that could be a good thing (don't have any so can't...

Separated from Letna Park by the Palace grounds Petrin Gardens continues the splendour of natural spaces above Prague. In my review for Letna I mentioned my excursion from Letna Park to Petrin Gardens, through the palace district. Letna was nice but Petrin Gardens is simply beautiful, continuing to boast the unreal views of the city you get at Letna too, or anywhere up the hills to be honest, but adds so much to the idyllic scenery. It may have been because by the time I got through the palace from Letna and into Petrin it was borderline twilight, however, I really really enjoyed my journey back down to old town Prague from up here so much more. Everything looked stunning and there were so many hidden winding paths down the hills that it felt like everyone had their own privacy. There are some really interesting tourist spots up here too which I'll have to investigate further another time but for the natural space alone and all the scenery, Petrin was probably my favourite park space that I inhabited during my week long stay in Prague. An absolute must see for couples...
