Seriously I dun really recommend this shop. I went here few days ago with my boyfriend was because of the reviews. The shop was clean but staffs spoke English barely even though it was already much better than the other shops in Japan. I highly recommended you to do a reservation before you go as it was a different price in between reservation and walk-in. There were few things I didn’t really like this shop. It was true they had many kimonos for women to choose but there were few options from the basic plan ( they were not that beautiful ) if you want to rent the one a bit more beautiful u have to pay much more. From 6000ish yen to 10000ish yen. They also had different things suggested you to upgrade your kimono for example if you want a pettier nagajuban ( show at the collar) you have to pay 500 yen more, prettier waistband 500-1000 yen more, waistband accessories 500-1000 yen more, prettier hair accessories 500-1000 yen more and prettier hairstyle 500-2000 yen more. I just felt like they were trying too hard to ask you to pay more and more. Also, one thing I am very disappointed! The staff asked me about the insurance at the beginning then I told her no and she asked me again when I was choosing the kimono bag and I said no again so I was pretty sure she understood I didn’t want insurance. They didn’t give us a receipt until I asked for after we paid. It was taking her a while to prepare the receipt till we was ready to go but at that time we didn’t have enough time to look at it properly then few days later, I found out they charged me insurance which was 500yen-.- I think she charged us on purpose as she avoided to give us the receipt at the beginning. One thing I would suggest you do more research, compare with another kimono shops and rmb make a...

Friendly and skilled staff, in and out quickly. Most staff also spoke basic English so communication (for dressing) wasn’t really an issue. One of the most budget-friendly yet quality rental shops in Tokyo. They are a chain with many locations! Overall great experience. Just that the cancellation policy for reservations (recommended and cheaper by 500-1000 yen) is very, too strict (3 days before free, 2 days before 50% of booking fee, and then after that 100%). And the various add-ons that they tempt you with (like different obi bow styles, hairstyles, hair accessories, handbags, etc.) and also a 550 yen ā€œinsuranceā€ fee (technically optional but..highly recommended per staff) that felt a little nickel and dime-y. But it’s Japan after all, kimono rentals aren’t cheap (as nearly as say Hanbok rentals), but the standard package includes a fair amount and is very decent especially for its price point compared to other shops in the area. I also would have wished that staff explained a bit more about the layers and dressing process as you are being (carefully wrapped) like a doll. There are multiple ties, a towel, and a flattening board at tied around your waist - it will be tight. But you can ask them to loosen it a bit…you cannot take photos or video record the dressing process or hairstyling process however… Overall recommended. A standard package (online reservation) with a 1100(?) yen hairstyle upgrade came out to be...

I had a decent experience overall, and I appreciate that some of the staff spoke English — that was really helpful and made the process smoother. Most of the team was kind and really sweet, which I truly appreciated.

However, I did feel a bit disappointed at the end. One of the staff, one of the staff helped me throughout the process. But when it came time to pay, one of her colleagues tried to confirm the price of the yukata I chose, and she stopped her and responded with a bit of a smug smile. It gave me the impression that she was happy I didn’t question the price. What surprised me most was that she assumed I didn’t understand Japanese — I overheard her say, ā€œShe’ll pay for premium,ā€ even though I was sure I chose the tier below that. I didn’t want to make a scene, so I just went ahead and paid, but it left me with mixed feelings.

Just a little tip — double-check the options and prices before paying. :)

✨✨✨

Again, most of the other staff were really sweet and helpful — that made the experience much nicer.

update: I went to a different place! realized she straight up scammed me

I don’t recommend the place adding things for money doesn’t make sense! i got ā€œpremium kimonoā€ in the other place for the same price with an experience and pictures. find better places!!

This place has too many extra charge but without noticing the customer from the beginning. At first you will see a price as the lowest price was 4900 including everything, but the thing is : After you choose the clothes, signed the paper with your passport number, you will notice there’s only 2 very basic hair style you can choose, and you want others, they charge 1100 and 2200, 1100 are very ugly style too and they didn’t make it look good, when I asked them to redo it, the girl who did my agree but the other girl refused and told her don’t change for me, she said it will take too much time. There’s an older lady who helped me changed the hair style after put my clothes on which was very kind of her, changing hair style is very fast. From the beginning, I have asked if there’s everything included they told me yes, but it turns out there’s so many things were extra, not only hair style, also the decoration on your clothes and hair charges extra. Well, 1100-2200 is not too much, but it makes me feel very uncomfortable, I feel I got scammed, I’d rather choose some other shops charge 5800-6000 but included all the hair style. I have also found out the other person complained about this shop.

My visit to VASARA was a wonderful experience. The shop offers a great selection of beautiful kimonos and yukatas, blending tradition with elegance. The staff were attentive and helpful, making the process of choosing and wearing a kimono smooth and enjoyable. The attention to detail and care they provided made the experience truly special. I would also like to express my appreciation for Leader Hashida Nobuko (ę©‹ē”° 俔子), whose dedication and leadership are reflected in the shop’s excellent service and well-organized system. Her commitment to providing an authentic and welcoming experience is evident, and it truly enhances the overall visit. For anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable kimono rental experience, VASARA is a great choice. Thank you to Hashida Nobuko-san and the team for their kindness and professionalism—I look forward to visiting again!

We rented kimonos as a group of 5 and we had a great experience. We reserved online (not sure if it’s possible to reserve in English or not) and found the place easily. 3 of my friends didn’t speak Japanese but the ladies dressing us spoke enough English that I didn’t have to interpret the whole time which was nice. They had a pretty good selection of kimonos but we reserved for 10:30am and I wonder how many of the best ones were already chosen before that, so I’d recommend reserving for as early as possible. It was raining and they lent us umbrellas, but only one for every two people which was a bit odd. Otherwise it was a great experience and I’d go back again.
