The Museo is more like an art gallery displaying the amazing and prolific work of Maximo Laura. Traveling throughout Peru, one eventually asks when will craftsmen transition from reproducing the past and take their craft with their unique heritage in to the future. The craft in question is manually produced on a weavers loom. The level of detail, color, texture and composition are stunning and mesmerizing. Maximo employs traditional symbols and motifs, but employs them is new and refreshing ways. There are many museums in Cusco. Read moreAmazing free museum with incredible tapestry work from a guy named Maximo Laura. He uses a traditional weaving technique and the work is beautiful, breathtaking even! There is a video screening inside that tells you about the artists, his life & his inspiration for keeping this traditional technique from his culture alive. We thought the whole thing quite interesting, informative & beautiful.
Also displayed around the museum are countless awards this man has won around the world, showing how talented he is. Some of the pieces are available for sale and he has prints of pieces available for sale too, for those on a smaller budget.
