Our family had a most unpleasant experience with the Maytaq Wasin Hotel and for this reason, we cannot recommend it to fellow travelers. | |The tour agency that we really liked and used for a 3 night / 4 day itinerary in Peru (SAM Travel) booked us into the Maytaq Wasin for the 3rd night of our Inca Trail/Cusco itinerary: April 29. We were due to stay in Cusco a final night on April 30 before continuing on to Chile. ||Because the hotel was centrally located and our preference was to avoid another one night stay, before taking breakfast in the hotel on the morning of April 30, we inquired at the front desk as to whether our same room (a triple) was available that night. In response to our inquiry, the desk clerk replied that he would check the hotel reservation records and let us know. Not long after, at approximately 8am, the desk clerk informed us that the room indeed was available and what the rate was. We promptly replied that the rate was acceptable and we would take the room. | |We then proceeded from the breakfast area up to our room to get ready for our scheduled 9am Cusco city tour with SAM Travel. We unpacked all of the SAM Travel tote bags that had contained our trip clothing so that we could return the tote bags at 9am to SAM Travel. We left all of our toiletries in the bathroom and kept our valuables in the room’s safe. We also cancelled the hotel reservation that we had been holding for another Cusco Hotel that night. ||We then returned to the hotel lobby to wait for our tour bus with the SAM Travel tote bags. At approximately 8:50am, 10 minutes before our scheduled pickup, the same desk clerk that had confirmed the room’s availability suddenly informed us that in fact, the room was not available. This left us surprised and stressed. After being assured that the room was available, and relying on that assurance, the hotel had abruptly changed course. ||The unexplained hotel “U-Turn” was something I have not experienced in more than 4 decades of extensive foreign travel. It certainly cast a long shadow on our excursion that day and when we returned to the hotel at 2pm, we requested to speak with the hotel manager. Ultimately, the manager apologized for the mistake (evidently proper “operation procedure” had not been adhered to) but insisted that we could not occupy the room. As a consequence, we were left scrambling. We ended up placing all of our belongings in plastic bags and needed to make arrangements to secure a new hotel for the night. The hotel was kind enough to cover our modest taxi fee to the new hotel. ||In sum, an unpleasant and stressful experience caused entirely by the hotel’s...
Read moreWe stayed at Maytaq Wasin Hotel for a total of three nights, We are a group of 12 travelers, all middle age. The hotel is clean and located a very short distance from the town square. There is a money exchange next door, and a full Market just 5-6 stores down the road. This hotel is three stories and does not have a elevator but the staff is more then accommodating to bring your luggage up to your room and bring it down. There is filtered water and tea on every floor and a I stayed on the second floor, and there was a lounge just to hang out on second floor. The breakfast was included and included scrambled eggs, fruit, toast, yogurt and coffee and tea. Since we had an early check out at 4 am they provided a bagged breakfast which included ham and cheese sandwich and fruit and juice.
One of our travelers had a medical emergency and they acted quickly and called medics and provided oxygen, They did provide the sick traveler the option to return to hotel and wait for our return if needed. They...
Read moreThe housekeeping stole my 975 Karat silver ring. I saved all my life to go on a trip like this and I don't work my husband helped me pay for this trip. They think everyone is rich on these vacations and us tourist have money. The staff are unhappy here! There was paint on the bathroom carpet floor. I wondered why ?The next day they stole my ring that I left on the counter beside my bed. Do not leave anything they can sell or use in this place. Looks are deceiving. They did not refill items outside rooms because they are pushed. The staff are working too hard and there willing to steal. Its a poor country. They do your beds when you never put the paper on the bed for them to give them the ok to do it, which I did not like. (Its a chance to steal) Learn from me not to leave any expensive items anywhere! They ask for money constantly and they don't know where you came...
