Our entire experience was a masterclass in how not to treat a customer, and it has ensured I will never return to any Cornish Bakery establishment.
The issue stemmed from a simple misunderstanding regarding a "share deal" of assorted pastries. The menu rightly displays two prices for almost every item – eat-in and takeaway – except for a few items like drinks and some others. The share deal, however, had no such designation. We ordered the share deal, were served, and began enjoying the pastries when we were abruptly accosted by a female employee with red hair. She demanded we leave the premises because, according to her, the share deal was for takeaway only.
While she acknowledged that the menu lacked clarity on this point and this is an error on their part, her response was utterly unacceptable. Firstly, the bakery was not at capacity, so there was no justification for evicting paying customers. Secondly, the absence of a clear takeaway-only designation on the menu should have prompted a more customer-centric approach. Instead, we were essentially thrown out in the middle of our meal, with no attempt to find a solution or offer an apology.
This is not how a business treats its patrons. It was a display of utter disrespect and a complete failure on their part to rectify a situation caused by their own unclear menu. The pastries themselves were admittedly delicious, but the service left such a bitter taste that it completely overshadowed any enjoyment.
This incident is not only a reflection on this particular branch, but on The Cornish Bakery as a whole. I will be sharing my experience with everyone I know and strongly advise them to avoid all of their establishments. Furthermore, I urge them to review your menu practices and train their staff in proper customer service etiquette. A simple apology and a willingness to find a solution could have salvaged this situation. Instead, they have lost a...
Read moreI can't give the service any stars as we had an awful experience because Owie the chief Barista shouted at my family and whilst pointing his finger. Disgusting! I was a returning customer that was visiting with family on a busy bank holiday weekend, my family waited a long time in a queue to get a seat and had ordered tea and pastries, but I was sick and had to eat something so I bought a sandwich from the shop next door and sat down and quickly took few bites (now my understanding is that if you purchase something at a place you can eat something from outside as long as it isn't clearly branded) Owie walked over and just shouted at us and said 'that food is not from here! You cannot eat that here! What do you think? This is McDonald's!!' and walked off. I quickly put the food away and was shocked! As were customers around us who came over and said he was rude. So I went over to speak with him I told him that I accept I shouldn't have eaten the food from outside and don't dispute that but Owie should hae spoken to us politely as we were customers and he should be respectful. He said sorry but then when I said to him that I was a returning customer and I am upset and that I will feel like leaving he said that's fine - you can leave, I said you obviously don't care and he said I don't care. So I asked to speak with the manager who just said she was sorry - I said, we had paid for tea and pastries that we haven't had a chance to drink, what can you offer - she said she can just apologise. It was horrible but customers around us came over and said he was extremely rude and don't let him ruin your day!...
Read moreI’ve just been into the bakery (bourton on the water) to buy a pastry for my 4 year old son who was with me. I asked if they happened to offer local rates. I know a few of the local cafes do as well as some of the pubs. I didn’t think it was a particularly offensive or unreasonable question. The guy behind the counter who wasn’t serving me decided to ask me if I was a comedian before he carried on doing what he was doing. Another lady working but not serving me seemed to take offence too. She preceded to give me an explanation as to the fact they couldn’t offer local rates because they’re a chain etc. Her tone was terrible. As if I had insulted her personally. The guy then clearly deciding I’d gone deaf proceeded to say whilst laughing that the ‘locals like to wait until 5pm and then go in an ask for cheap food’. I was utterly gobsmacked that he thought that was a reasonable thing to say. After leaving absolutely fuming, I walked back with the intention of confronting him, but decided I wouldn’t come out of it well as I had my son with me. Appalling behaviour from staff. I asked a question and all I required was a...
