I got my senior prom dress here in 2022. My Dad brought me and my boyfriend + his friend(all men) to pick out my dress. the store was a bit busy. I was able to try on any dress I wanted. For context, I’m 5’2” and petite, I’m also white. Looking back at that day I was not being serviced too, my father and my ex were. My opinions on the dresses were dismissed. A lot of the “do you like it” and “isn’t it beautiful” was said towards my dad and my ex. I didn’t leave with a dress I felt comfortable in, I left an address that my ex-boyfriend and my Dad were sold. I did feel beautiful and I enjoyed my prom, but I don’t think I would’ve purchased the dress if the workers had been servicing me instead of my party. (Men). But I got a dress and I looked good in it.
When it came time to take my little sister prom dress shopping she really wanted to come here. She knew I got my dress here so she was very excited for her appointment. I personally scheduled her appointment as the guardian, I told them her size and what school she was attending.
The second my sister and I walked through the door, we walk in to a SCREAMING MATCH between the owner(old guy) and a bride-to-be. She had an appointment with her bridal party and they were trying on bridesmaids dresses but they were being kicked out (this is what I picked up from the scenario I could be wrong). This yelling match went on for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, the boutique is busy, but not THAT busy, this definitely was not a traffic problem. Everyone’s uncomfortable And I’m immediately getting red flags.
For some more context, the bridal shower and the bride were all women of color. they where told they couldn’t come in as a party even though they scheduled a party appointment… there were only like 4 bridesmaids?? I don’t recall a 4 person party being an issue when I was shopping there as a kid? And I was the only one getting an actual dress! They were kicking out 4 customers. I’m struggling to concur if my party back in 2022 was “OK” because they were all white or if they were all men? Because the second after this party leaves, they did so FAST, the owner begins to insult them. he’s here saying WITH HIS CHEST how “Some people were just born in barns” and such. He’s saying this about a party of black women, while there are kids of color ACTIVELY TRYING ON DRESSES IN THE CHANGING ROOM.
If my sister hadn’t already had eyes on multiple dresses, I would’ve grabbed her and walked right out of there.
My sister starts picking dresses, and she’s being told that she can’t try on any dresses from the mannequins. I’m confused. If they’re on a mannequin, why can’t she try them on?? Apparently, because the budget I pulled out of thin air was not sufficient? I’m sorry, $700 should be more than enough for one of these dresses. In fact the entire time I was there I only saw one gown from a 2024 catalog. Sherri hill.
When I asked where and how these dresses were sourced, the lady owner said “they come directly from the designers”. GIRL PLEASE. I can find any one of these gowns online, out of stock, because they haven’t been in production since 2012.
I told them the price of the dress doesn’t matter, and if it did, wouldn’t be pressing for her to try on the dress. if she doesn’t like the dress, she isn’t going to buy it. They finally let her try on the dress after me asking six times, It took them 3 minutes for them to get it off the display. Turns out it was the cheapest dress she had picked out ($599).
My sister starts trying on these dresses in the changing room and THE LADY OWNER IS OPENING HER CURTAINS AND GOING IN THERE WITH HER??? Yeah absolutely not. I’m done. my sister looked amazing in the dress but I’m DONE. I stage a scenario to get us out of there without incident. Once we leave the establishment, my sister tells me that the owner lady was COMMENTING on hers and the other kids figures while assisting. Theres absolutely no decency while blatantly walking into KIDS DRESSING ROOMS WHILE THEY ARE HALF UNDRESSED. This. place. is....
Read moreMy daughter has made me drive up Main St everytime we are leaving Eastport since early elementary school. The whole reason is to look at the beautiful dresses in the Treasure Island window. I promised her a dress from there when she went to prom. Let me tell you, our experience and our dress was more then we ever dreamed it to be. The owner is so incredibly knowledgeable about every dress they sell. We saw a dress online & wanted to order from her. She did tell us it is an extremely popular dress that has been out all of 2019 & many, many people have bought it. She does keep a book of every dress sold for prom & the school you attend to insure that their are no duplicates at prom, well at least if you shop at TI. While she was taking my daughters measurements they didn't seem correct to her. I'll have to admit she does have a very Kim K like body shape. The owner had my daughter try on a dress that had just come in, no one had it that & it was very close in fit just to make sure it looked ok on her. When I tell you they know their stuff, they do! There is no dress size on her dress, most of them don't, because the owners know these dresses, everything about them. The owner is an engineer, she is clearly a very, very intelligent woman & I hope it's ok I said that, I need people who have written poor reviews to know you are not just a sales clerk & to not make assumptions because we know what that can get us, right?? Lol! Anyway, when my daughter put the dress on it really was like it was made for her. Everyone in the store stopped what they were doing to look and insisted that dress is the one, in everyway it looked like it was made for her. It fit every inch of her body perfectly & it matched her hair & skin color exactly. My daughter Aaliyah FELL IN LOVE w/the dress immediately, sooooo that is now her prom dress instead of the 1st one we came in for. I would also like to say another young lady was also shopping for prom and got several dresses really to just see what shape fit her body best since her and my daughter are both 5'2 & these gowns aren't made for short girls. Anyway, the very 1st dress she put on, that the owner had picked out for her she got as well. She said that the cut & color really would have been the last thing she thought she wanted but it fit her so perfectly she said she didn't want to even try on anything else & she bought that 1st dress. They really know these gowns, what looks good on body types and just because we couldn't memorize all the sizes, stlyes, brands, etc of all the gowns w/no sizing in them doesnt mean they can't. They know these gowns, as far as the rules of only letting them zip it up, taking your shoes off, not trying on gowns they know won't fit, it's because this is their job. If a dress gets messed up someone will not pay the $700 price tag, then they lose. People have to understand this is their store it's not a big chain that it doesn't matter. They own the store & dresses and if trying them on ruins them it hurts their pocket, not some corporation that one dress doesn't matter. Would you want a dress that has obviously been tried on 100xs? No you wouldn't. I'm sorry this is so long but I really care about the owner & understand her and the rules and want to defend her from the negative comments on here. My daughter is only in 10th grade, so she has at the very least 4 more dresses she'll need before she graduates and we will absolutely, hands down, 1000% be getting them from Treasure Island. This store and the owners are an Annapolis...
Read moreI consider myself very, very picky when it comes to prom dresses but Treasure Island has helped me find the perfect one the past two times I’ve shopped there. Last year I thought I had found the perfect dress but my date switched our color to blue last minute so I had to go find an entirely new one. I had tried at least 6 stores looking for a color I’m not particularly fond of until I came across this one. It was very late in the prom season, the end of April so I was very stressed but my grandmother and I were greeted by the owner and got his undivided attention since we were his only customers. I told him exactly what I needed and he pulled out 3 dresses and after only trying on the second one which I was already in love with before putting it on, I ended my never ending search of finding a dress. We paid and he suggested an alteration shop for us to go to near where we lived (which also did a great job) and we were on our way. This year I made the mistake of trying another dress store which had failed me last year again. I immediately regretted not going to Treasure Island first so the next day I brought my grandmother there once again since we had such helpful service the last time. I had no idea what I wanted going into the store. It was much busier than last time but I think they did a good job of managing it by having everyone write their names down and letting new customers browse the dresses while they helped people try some on in the back. The owner to my surprise remembered us and asked to see my prom pictures from last year and was sure to avoid going with the same style and encouraging me to try something new. He suggested something more fitted (since I wore a ball gown last year) which is exactly what I was interested in trying on so I picked out 3. When it was my turn to try my dresses on one of their employees, I believe her name was Sam, was so supportive and kept complimenting the way I looked in the dress which really boosted my confidence. Everyone was so supportive including the woman who owns the store who even pulled out another dress she thought I’d look nice in. I took my time trying on the dresses and was not rushed and after 3 dresses I found one that I was absolutely in love with. We bought it but noticed a loose thread that the owner offered to fix but unfortunately she had run out of the color thread she needed. She was very accommodative and offered to take it home and meet us somewhere closer to where we live to get it back to us. I appreciated how much she cared about fixing it and getting it back to us. Overall no matter what problem I’ve come to them with, they’ve always been accommodating and super helpful. Both of the owners also seem like they know what they’re talking about when it comes to fashion. They always have some sort of advice on what jewelry or shoes to wear with the dress you pick. I also have friends that have shopped here for their prom dresses and it’s their...
