If you are considering this complex, I urge you to reconsider. I have lived here since March/ April and it is going downhill fast.
At first the main issues were: A bar downstairs that they kept promising was going to open but it literally just opened in Dec but no discount of the amenity fee since they could not deliver.
Constant fire alarms going off at all times of day but mostly in the middle of the night (so much so that most residents stopped going outside, which is a huge liability and super dangerous)
Building management turnover where Anthony Miller became manager. I have had very alarming and unprofessional behavior. (All documented including many dishonest statements which proof of dishonesty) For example: during a 2 day power outage, we received no communication at all until I eventually emailed on day 2 asking when power would be restored. In this email I complained about the pitch dark hallways (no emergency lighting), unlocked doors (which leave us vulnerable to those living at the homeless shelter next door etc) and I asked for the emergency preparedness plan several times to which I received an unprofessional and poorly written email from Anthony taking no accountability as manager. His email said something to the effect of he didn’t have power at his house either so he couldn’t email. Laughable. If Cortland does not have a plan for emergency situations, which include someone who is not affected by said emergency, sending pertinent updates that’s scary.
Example 2: I was hurt in the building gym and requested an incident report be filed. After no follow up for almost 2 weeks. I reached out and was told Anthony refused to file one. No one even bother to tell me, I was just completely blown off, until I made it clear I would escalate the issue. (An employee letting me know Anthony didn’t think it was worth filing is in writing). Soon-after, I made an internal complaint and asked to speak to someone above Anthony and received a combative email FROM ANTHONY back. So I sent another email requesting an escalation and was finally called by his boss Jaime who initially met me with defensiveness repeatedly telling me people like Anthony as opposed to addressing my building safety concerns (no emergency preparedness plan, medicine balls being overfilled etc)
Now the final issue is the alarms are being caused by bad pipes and all top floor residents have been forced to move out. I was given 30 days notice over arguably the biggest holiday of the year to figure out what my next move was. Very stressful especially considering I was on the other side of the country with family for 14 of the 30 days. The complex has given options that are clearly not in the best interest of those who’s leases are being terminated through no fault of our own.
None of the options given include playing for moving costs to leave Cortland even though we are being forced to move. The company is so money hungry they are only giving the option to move within the building or select other Cortland properties.I tried to negotiate the terms of moving with management and have been met with resistance which is odd considering they are at fault. I have had such an unsettling experience here I literally do not feel safe or comfortable being in any Cortland property.
Before leaving this review I scrolled a bit and see they must be giving incentives for new residents to leave good reviews because all the recent 5 stars seems to be new people. Very unethical, be careful, just further proof of how this particular team works and representative of the Cortland...
Read moreI’m honestly VERY disappointed with how my moving process has been going, I haven’t even moved into my apartment yet and have already been having issues. I’ve talked to so many different people at the leasing office and at this point it seems like no one cares.
I came to view the apartments on Aug 3 with Clay, everything was great he told me I would receive my lease agreement closer to my move in date September 13th, okay great. The apartment wasn’t going to be ready until Aug 13th and I believe on the 16th was when I physically went to the office and spoke to Ashley to see if I could view my apartment. She told me that the apartment was not ready and she would call me the next morning. She didn’t call me, I called a couple of days later and another lady told me that she was going to do a walk through of the apartment and call me back an hour later. She didn’t not call me back.
While all this is happening I did not know that my leasing papers were emailed to me. I was going based off of what Clay told me and was expecting them closer to my move in date and thought I would receive a phone call or something to let me know that the papers were sent to my email, turns out the paperwork was sent to my email 2 days after I viewed the apartments and I wasn’t aware. No one called me and all the times I spoke to the 2 ladies at the office they didn’t bring it to my attention either. While I was randomly on the website one night I saw that my apartment became available again. This came as a shock to me because to my knowledge I never received my leasing papers and I had already paid the admin and application fee so I was very confused. I tried calling the office multiple times and didn’t get any answers and went up there AGAIN for I think the 3rd time. When I asked them what happened they said they made my apartment available again because I was “unresponsive.” No one ever called me to tell me my paperwork was sent so at this point I’m very frustrated, they reassured me they would fix it. The next day Michelle calls me in response to an email that I sent her in regards to the situation I explained everything to her and was able to sort of resolve the issue and assign my apartment back to me.
I sent them all the paperwork they asked for and was now waiting for my lease agreement again. 2 days go by and I reach out to Michelle asking her when I should expect my lease agreement because I didn’t want it to be sent to me like last time and I miss it. She has someone name Clyde reach out to me and he asks me to resend the paperwork that I have already sent, to his email. I do that so I think everything is okay now. 2 days go by and I reach out to Clyde through email to make sure he received everything, no response. That was Friday of last week.
My move in date is less than a week and I have yet to receive my lease agreement. This has been my worst apartment moving experience, the communication has been absolutely horrible the only person that has attempted to help me is Michelle. I honestly don’t know what to do...
