To say that I'm disappointed in my experience with La Ventana is an understatement. I work in Deep Ellum and have been coming to La Ventana to get tacos several times a week over the past year and a half.
I've noticed that the quality of the food and service has been declining since March. But today assured me I will not be coming back to the Farmers Market location.
First off, the cook in the kitchen wasn't wearing his mask correctly, pulling it down under his nose. He was also walking in and out of the kitchen in the 40 minutes that my friend and I waited on our tacos. When we arrived there were only two people before us waiting for their food. It was by no means rush hour.
The cashier was also rude for no reason. I tend to be especially nice to customer service workers because I understand the pressure they must be under. But the cashier they had today:
Didn't take my order correctly
Didn't print out my receipt and instead wrote the order # on a blank piece of paper
Did not bother to call out my order until another worker showed up 10 minutes after my food had been sitting out in the kitchen counter (my friend and I were hoping that wasn't ours)
Gave me an attitude when I asked for the elote I had ordered saying I hadn't ordered it (although I had no proof that he hadn't charged me for it, since I did not receive a receipt)
Made me wait an additional 5 minutes because another part of my order was also not made.
They also did not give us the correct amount of tacos we had ordered.
And while I understand that orders can go wrong and accidents happen, my experience today has made me regret recommending this place as the best tacos in the area to...
Read moreI bought food from here yesterday and had no expectations for the dining experience. I ordered queso, guacamole, salsa, and tacos. The guacamole had good flavor. Salsa is not a chunky salsa but didn't taste bad I just prefer a little more chunky. It was more soupy. The queso was delicious 😋 definitely the best thing eaten here for me. But it was cold. The tacos were also very cold and not great tacos. Barely good tacos. My friend took the tacos back and asked if they could be warmed up because they were cold and the young lady snatched the tray and rolled her eyes as though we had done something to her. I'm thinking, Did you pay for cold tacos or did I? I prefer my hot food hot. I personally don't like eating cold food especially when it's supposed to be hot. When she brought the food back out she didn't say sorry about that or anything just rolled her eyes and handed us the tray. I really don't understand why such a response when simply requesting what should have already have been given which is hot food. All in all, check the temperature of your food before walking away to be sure you will enjoy it. I'm sure they have other staff members and maybe they wouldn't have been rude but hard for me to recommend with that first and...
Read moreLiz and Angel made me feel like I was being welcomed home. Their warmth, charm, and genuine hospitality instantly set the tone for what turned out to be an unforgettable experience. These two are not just staff—they're the heart and soul of the place.
Angel recommended the tamarind margarita, and let me tell you—it was nothing short of a revelation. Perfectly balanced with a tangy sweetness and just the right kick, it was like sipping sunshine with a twist. I’ve had my fair share of margaritas, but this one? This one raised the bar.
Then came the barbacoa tacos. Oh. My. Goodness. These weren’t just tacos, they were a culinary masterpiece. The meat was tender, juicy, and infused with rich, smoky flavor that melted in my mouth. Each bite was a celebration of bold, authentic taste, wrapped in a perfectly grilled tortilla and topped with fresh, vibrant garnishes. I genuinely considered ordering a second round just to relive the magic.
This wasn’t just a meal, it was an experience. A delicious, soul-satisfying, joy filled experience made even better by the incredible people behind it. If you're looking for a place where the food is divine and the people make you feel like family, look no further. Liz and Angel, thank you for...
