I’ve been coming to Hawaii to visit family for the past 10 years and have always tried to catch a bonefish on my own—just figuring it out as I go. This year, I finally decided to book a guide and found Oahu Fly Fishing with Jeremy. Best decision I’ve made for fishing out here.

The whole day felt like a crash course in bonefishing and fly fishing in Hawaii. I ended up landing one bonefish and had a few other chances, but things didn’t quite line up. Still, I learned a ton.

The flats were wild—felt like a National Geographic scene. We saw GTs chasing fish, a blacktip reef shark nearby, and even a seal hanging around. Super cool experience.

I’ll definitely be putting what I learned to use next time I hit the flats, and I’m already looking forward to another trip with Jeremy. One tip: bring good polarized sunglasses. I thought mine were solid, but Jeremy’s higher-end ones helped him spot fish I completely missed.

I fished early October with Jeremy and had an unbelievable experience. He was more than happy to answer all the questions I had during and prior to the trip considering it was my first time saltwater fly fishing. I really enjoyed the change of scenery fishing different types of terrain throughout the day. Jeremy put me on fish constantly knowing the area we fished like the back of his hand.
