Before I get into the delicious food, let me describe my favorite concept of this restaurant.
Every month they identify a new refugee from the Tiyya foundation who brings forth a recipe from their hometown for which in that particular month that refugee gets a cut from the money the restaurant makes (I believe 5%). This also ensures they have a diverse monthly menu. They also report that 40% of proceeds go directly to the Tiyya Foundation to support their programs!
So you can rest assured that some of your money is going back to the community to do something good.
Now that I explained that let’s get into the food. I know one word that can never be used to describe it “bland”! We ordered 2 main courses and 2 appetizers and they were all deliciously spiced differently. The goat was cooked to perfection and so tender it melted off the bone. As for the appetizers- they are so hearty and priced mostly

I thought I'd have leftovers but it was too good not to finish. Literally finger licking good. I used to patronize the shop that was at the same location and I must say the new owners fixed the place so well. The atmosphere is very multicultural and international like their monthly changing menus. I'm mad that I missed the Somali month and can't wait for the Haitian one. While I was there an Afghani American family visited from Texas and ordered extra because they said the food was that authentic. I know they're right! Julie provided excellent customer service and has a lovely professional demeanor. She juggled her roles flawlessly and made sure my delicious food was sans tomatoes for my allergy. I'll have to return ASAP before they switch menus. I'm vicariously traveling with their scrumptious and diverse...

From the inside decor, cool host Christian, menu selection, and items for sale- they are nourishing you with a full vibe. The concept is hella cool because tho they have a few standard house courses on the menu, they have another menu that is changed monthly. They actually get people from the region that they're representing that month to train their chef to make the dishes that they serve. I think that's super because that gives truth to the authenticity of the dishes they create. I tried the goat, Egyptian lamb shank, and the Persian salad. Can I say that everything that I put in my mouth was delicious! No for real, I'm legit an adventurous eater so I enjoyed the fact that it was like I went to 3 different restaurants, because I experienced 3 different cultures of food in one place. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Flavors from Afar to anyone wanting to travel using your tastebuds- no...
