Initially I was elated to have found a black owned nail/hair salon. The shop was so pretty and neatly kept. I had only previously gotten my nails serviced but had needed a good wash, blow dry and curl after combing out my Locs of 5 years. Let me just say this, if you are looking to have your hair done to ANY standard, NO DONT COME HERE! The owner who isnāt at all in the cosmetology industry, simply employs individuals who obtain a license yet havenāt the FIRST clue as how to actually care for hair! I walked out of that shop looking like āI got da bike holidayā or shall I say, dream girls finest. A bouffant is what I was given! I immediately spoke with the owner who initially told me to come back to have the services redone. I eventually asked for a refund and thatās where this situation got even more LUDICROUS! The services I received or lack there of was a trim, wash blow dry and curl, amounting in $75. Would you believe the refund being honored is $50. I expressed to Chayil (the owner) the $75 where she asked āyou got a trim too. Were you not satisfied with that as wellā I couldnāt believe it lol. How incredibly UNPROFESSIONAL!! The $25 for that (if you can call it that) ātrimā should have been refunded as well off of principle, professionalism, and a total waste of my time, along with the parking I had to pay! I just canāt believe how immensely petty and unprofessional this OWNER is! As someone who PRIDES herself on supporting Black Owned Businesses, this experience was definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis nail shop is in a super convenient location in downtown LA, and I love that itās woman-owned. The space feels pretty new ā clean and simple ā and it seems like theyāre still building on the decor as its bare in areas or has a few cheaper looking items.
The staff was really nice, professional, and patient, which I appreciated. My pedicure was enjoyable ā my feet got a good soak, there were lots of scent options for the basic pedi, and the hot towels were perfectly warm.
Where I think thereās room for improvement is in the quality of the nail work. I asked for a simple design (not pre-booked, so thatās on me), but it ended up taking longer than expected. I usually get more detailed sets done elsewhere in less time. The French tip came out a bit crooked, and there were areas where polish was missing. Unfortunately, I didnāt have time to ask for fixes because I had to head to work so I accepted it. Also, didnāt want to be mean.
Iām still working on advocating for myself more in those moments, but going forward Iād recommend messaging a tech on Instagram ahead of time if you want anything beyond the basics/one color. Prices are on the higher end, so I was hoping to leave feeling fully satisfied instead of lowkey depressed. Especially since these are supposed to be my birthday trip nails.
Added: five hours later. Realizing the hard gel isnāt fully on a few of my nails. Will have to get them redone/corrected tomorrow...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was visiting from out of town and needed to get my nails done. This is the kind of experience I have been looking for. I love the design work with shellac but have not been able to find anyone who does a good job and has creative ideas of their own. This salon provides that service. I was offered a drink at my appointment, I selected wine. This another choice I have always wanted. I loved the wine!
I am not sure if I read the menu right, but I was given a manicure. I have never really cared for manicures as I donāt like the āripping or cuttingā on the tops of the nails and cuticles. This service was the same, painful. I really just want the polish and design.
I loved the polish and design and attention to detail. The service was expensive, but for the design consult and detailed work and the glass of wine, it was worth the added expense. My artist took the time to make sure I liked the shape and length. She also took the time to make sure the design and colors looked right.
Also, make sure to call for appointment. I walked in about 11:30 on a Saturday morning and was able to get back in at 2:30. I think it took about an hour to remove the old shellac and do the new...
