I went here on a Tuesday evening around 9am to get a quick bite to eat with a friend of mine and unfortunately, the services was horrendous. The only reason why I actually gave it 2 stars was bc the food and drinks were tasty (shoutout to the kitchen cocktail menu.) We started at the hostess counter who said, "sit anywhere your serve will come to you" not sure why there's a hostess if it's open seating? After 5 minutes we went back inside the hostess to get a menu because we weren't given one upon seating and there was no QR code to scan. After ten minutes we went back inside to hostess to inquire about service and was told the server would come over to us.... We waited another 5 minutes before moving our seats inside near the bar, hoping to get more attention. AGAIN we had to ask for a waitress which game about ten minutes later. We have to ask for a cocktail menu to order our drinks and ordered our food. Food came out promptly however our drinks never came. We had to ASK AGAIN, in which they were brought out after our food was completed. We were offered no type of compensation besides a verbally apology for the waitress numerous times in which me and my date just blankly starred back at her bc it was unreal. As someone who worked as a waitress in Manhattan, Ny for over 10 years, I can't solely blame the server. It seems management is going to need to be switched around, which typically happens in a new restaurant. There were only two servers on the floor yet a hostess doing NOTHING, she could've sat tables and alerted the waitress' they have a new customer. The bar manager was behind the bar drinking, laughing, and chatting with three customers all night, instead when he l could've been running and making drinks to help the busy and understaffed servers. Bar manager had absolutely not a care in the world besides the importance of himself and certainly not customer satisfaction. The food manager asked if we were okay, we told him we would like to order, instead of taking our orders on a piece of paper and giving it to the waitress himself to save time. He went to go find her and have her come over to us. Again as someone who has worked in the industry I understand it is a new restaurant but they definitely need to fire whatever management is in place so they can get organized I will not return until they work that out hopefully within...
Read moreWe had a business dinner here and the food was tasty and worth the visit. However, I don’t think I’ll come back mainly because there are other Brazilian places that give you more value for the menu considering now that they charge a nominal fee on top of the bill.
Although restaurants like those in Hawaii or island countries, charge fees for the kitchen staff in addition to your bill are common place due to legislation, I’m surprised Bossa Nova seems to add this fee as a corporate policy. Maybe I’m wrong in this but would like a response from the company.
This entitlement seems to lessen the experience of the place. Although I agree that everyone should get gratuities, when I was a 20 year-old college student working at Gladstones. It was normal for the servers to collect 10% of their days earnings in tips and share it with other staff like bussers and kitchen personnel.
That custom created a sense of pride in the level of service in order to get good tips. Now it’s just a handout. Bossa Nova should just simple pay better wages and let the customer decide if they want to dine and pay for the increased menu prices resulting from the overhead. It’s unfortunate. This company tries to create earnings for their kitchen staff from the customer rather than the company paying them just wages.
As of August 1, I did get a reply from the company, although it wasn’t on the public platform as they normally do when they are thankful for feedback. The explanation given was nothing I didn’t already know. Yes I know that it’s for the kitchen staff, however, what I’m criticizing the company over is the fact that they want customers to pay for the wages that they’re supposed to pay.
Here’s a novel idea Bossa Nova; the best way to appreciate the kitchen staff is by coming back and spending more money and purchasing the meals that people enjoy. Not by the three or four dollar handouts that frankly the servers should share with the kitchen since it’s because of the kitchen they’re getting tips.
Make the servers compile their days tips and share it with the staff because that’s the right thing to do. Either way it’s a mood point as I’m not coming back to this...
Read moreHello! I am a TV/Media personality had friends in town from Memphis wanted them to experience Bossanova but I wanted to try a new location that I have not been in La. Tonight I ate at Bossanova DTLA CHECK #178 . I was very disappointed In the food , Staff & establishment. I have only eaten at the Bossanova on Sunset, in which I love so I wanted to try a new location which was one of the worst decision I made. My friend and I ordered appetizer and entrees but entrees to go. The appetizer was a ceaser salad it was not fresh lettuce it was watered down so we ask to return for fresher lettuce ok. It was a not much better, Our server Blanca G was terrible she did not have good customer service at all. We spoke with manager on the appetizer, texture & how many times it was added on the bill . He was not very accommodating knowing how everything was then once we paid, we still gave a tip. When I was in college, I was a server I know how hard it is sometimes. We paid early for our food and was conversing and before we could get ourself together the waitress had the nerve to come over and ask us can we move to another table in the area cause a women at table next to us had a friend coming and she wanted to use our table not knowing we was finished with our food or not we was just paying earlier. I was furious, I was so disappointed but I will not be returning to the DTLA location! Horrible service, food was not fresh and bread was hard. So many things I can’t even type. I recommend the sunset location. Review the receipt it says it all. I will not return to this location& will be...
