Hello Folks, my wife and I had booked a lovely vacation last May stretching into June in Maui, Kihei. We had booked a VRBO through Rentals Maui, Kihei. Total disclosure; our rental booking and agreement did state in it that the booking was non-refundable. And this post is to warn folks that no matter your circumstances, it is just that, non-refundable. This post isn't to slander Rentals Maui, Kihei, rather to give full understanding to folks that you will not receive any refund for cancellations. Unfortunately I had a freak accident 2 weeks before our trip, which ruptured my MCL. I was hopeful for a slight tear but ended up to be the highest grade tear I could have. This meant I could not enjoy the beach. I was instructed to stay off sand and water as waves and shifting sand could injure my knee worse than it already was. I was also told to stay on level surfaces, which meant hiking was out of the question. We cancelled our dream vacation rental with Rentals Maui, Kihei, 13 days before we were to arrive. When we explained via email, my injury to Rentals Maui Kihei, and asked politely for a refund or credit to rebook later in the year, we were told they would see if the rental property would be rented during our agreed rental period, but it was unlikely. We never heard back until my wife reached out for an update, twice. Rentals Maui, Kihei, took many days, after the second email was sent, to respond. This was after our rental period had finished, and had us wondering why there wasn't better communication, and if the rental property actually made it back on the market. Needless to say, we are very disappointed as we lost over $2000 CAD. Be ready to forfeit all your money if something unfortunate happens that is beyond your control. No grace in...
Read moreLocation of this place is awesome. You are beachfront in a small condo community and there is a beautiful pool with a view of the sea and sunsets. The beach is uncrowded and turtles are plentiful here. The particular unit we stayed in however needs some love.
Upon entering the condo disappointed is the best word I can use to describe the scene in front of me. First of all it's dated. Worse than my grandma's house. Furnishings are uncomfortable, the bed isn't terrible but sheets threadbare and stains on all bedding. Pillow stains are the grossest. Sweet dreams.
The kitchen is somewhat updated but none of the dishes or gadgets are. Knives are dangerously dull, cups mismatched. It's an easy fix to get new linens, towels and dishes. Put a cover over the couch and get rid of that horrendous glass top coffee table everyone ran into and cursed at the entire week. Also, splurge on a new sponge for each renter. It's gross to offer a used bar of soap right? So is a used sponge.
Another simple fix is hooks. It's a beach house and not one towel rack or hook on a door to hang a wet towel or swimsuit. Not even a hook for the hand towel in the bath. They do offer you a rotten drying rack that's broken out on the Lanai. Again, Easy inexpensive fixes here. Not rocket science.
There are complimentary beach towels that have seen better days but are functional. There's some sand toys and a cooler in a closet. A beach blanket would be nice.
This place would be cute if somebody tried a little. We would definitely come back just not to this unit (119...
Read moreThe unit was in a good location - not real close to the beach, but no more than a 10 minute walk. A "Quiet Pool" is close by and the view is really nice - can see the ocean. If it had been clean and in good shape, I would have given it 5 stars. There were dirty dishes in the cupboard - coffee still in them - bathroom not real clean, tv didn't work, cushions on the chairs on the lanai were dirty and need replacing, exterior of cupboards had dirty finger prints on them and I had to clean the dresser before I put clothes in it. The walls were marked up and in need of painting. I had trouble fully opening the drapery to the lanai on the right side - banging my head on the wand every time I went in and out. Carpeting stained. One of the fans made a clicking noise all night the first night I was there - they offered to have someone come look at it, so that was nice that they responded so quickly . . . I didn't have them fix it and chose just not to use it during my stay. All these things are easily fixable - hope they do. I love Ekahi and Maui - I'll probably try a different location next time though.
Not regarding the unit, but when coming up from the beach pool when it's dark - you can't see the numbers on the keypad to enter the code. An older gentleman and I had to wait for someone to come "rescue" us. Just a though that maybe some extra lighting there or a lighted keypad would be a good...
