A wonderfully cozy little shop with an amazing staff, good drinks, and a great atmosphere. The food unfortunately is not good. A friend and I split a spinach quiche and Hawaiian pancakes. The salad that came with the quiche was good, but the quiche filling was water logged with gummy crust. The pancakes were heavy, no real detectable Mac nuts, almost no coconut, and old /chewy/browned banana slices. The bacon tasted like leftovers that had been cooked the day before. I felt like we were eating expensive reheated leftovers. The staff however was great! Specially one of the girls in the kitchen who was so friendly and going above and beyond to make sure everyone had what they needed! They also have a nice artisan boutique at the front of the shop which is a thoughtful touch. I can tell that a lot of love has gone into putting this place together, but the food isn’t good and at around $30 a person for an entree and beverage after tip it’s hard to justify. It was one of worst meals I had while on the island but a positive experience because...
Read moreFirst time visiting here and the last. I travel for a living and buy what's called a London Fog tea drink on a very regular basis. I buy hundreds a year. For a 20oz London Fog, almond milk, and 12 pumps of sugar free vanilla I paid $8.40 at the MAUI Starbucks airport today. Other major coffee shops (Starbucks, Peet's, Etc) I visit around the country range from approx. $5.00 to $8.00. Not here at the Kalia Cafe. I was charged over $12.00 for that SAME drink. Almost 50% more for it. I mentioned it was expensive and could she verify that it wasn't a mistake. She did and said no mistake, that's our price for it. Then she told me that it had already gone onto my card. I told her, fine - they had me this time but never again I think charging a fair price and keeping a customer base is more important than overcharging and having an empty cafe like I saw. The other two employees looked bothered that I stood up and questioned the ridiculously expensive price. I would also like to mention that the drink was just “ok” in flavor. Just my opinion...
Read moreWe visited this café on 31 October to eat lunch. We were served by mnjvalentine. The service was not brilliant and rather slow, but the sun was good and we were in no particular hurry. We did notice that the young lady who served us had a very dour face on and a smile always seemed far away.
I like my coffee really hot, as I can't drink it if its lukewarm. As I normally do, when ordering it, I asked for it to be extra hot. After some time waiting, when my drink still had not arrived, I went inside and asked another staff member if it was ready. My drink had been made and was left on the counter while our server prepared the food (not good). The other staff member gave it to me and I took it outside to drink.
When I got the bill, I simply paid it, but did not leave a tip, as the service had not been at all good. On checking my bills when I got home, I noticed the description of my drink that had been put on by the server, it read "1 x Latte (Hot, 12oz, Whole, No Xtra Shots) Really F**KING HOT!!!"
Appalling! Glad I didn't...
