I met Nadine Witkin, owner and founder of Alpha 137 Gallery, serendipitously and by accident at a NYC art fair in 2019, during a short visit from Sydney, Australia. I’ve always been a bit of an art collector, but when I stumbled upon the eclectic, modern art treasures at Alpha 137 Gallery, I was hooked. Nadine's knowledge and passion was infectious, and I like that she seemed more interested in talking and sharing stories about the art and its provenance, than selling it. My first purchase was a crazy, almost three dimensional wall painting of an anthropomorphized cat by Californian Funk artist Roy de Forest, who I had never heard of previously. I learned that Roy de Forest was a painter famous for his depiction of dogs; however, this unique CAT was created by the artist expressly for the "Patrick Eddington Cat Project" - the brainchild of a cat lover from Utah who dreamed of opening a cat museum and persuaded a number of famous artists, including Roy de Forest, to create cat portraits for it. (The museum, alas, was not to be.) The provenance is fascinating and I continue to cherish CAT. My acquisitions from Alpha 137 Gallery have continued from there. I’m not an online shopper as a rule, but having met Nadine and her team subsequently, and visited their booths at the Texas Contemporary Art Fair and Art on Paper, and visited her lovely new gallery space in Chelsea, Manhattan, I’m a convert. Alpha 137 Gallery is a wonderfully safe and trustworthy place to explore your art passion. Highly...
Read morePersonally, I am in love with all types of art and you could say I'm a bit of an art connoisseur. After looking around a lot of galleries in search of a profound and meaningful piece, I found this gallery, which had a variety of works that aligned with my requests. To my surprise, they are priced quite fairly. I have had a gallery rip me off. I ended up spending hours in the show room chatting and looking at the high quality paintings flooded with color and intricacy. I eventually landed on a Judy Chicago, which i've found were pretty rare among the art community. The owner of the shop, Nadine, was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and generous with her time. She helped pick out the most perfect piece for me on her website. The gallery shipped it very carefully. This is one of the best experiences I have ever had! I put it on a shelf in my living room and it matches the style of my eclectic New York apartment well. I would 100% recommend this gallery over and over again!...
