This Best Buy is the worst. I was approached by a supervisor at the computers department who asked if I was being help and I said no I was waiting for someone to help me out. After waiting for awhile I left to go make a purchase at a different department seeing if maybe I could get help quicker else where. When I came across someone they let me know that they were off the clock and pointed me to someone else who was busy. I waited for that employee to finish with their customer and they disappeared. I was fed up at this point so I stopped another employee and luckily enough they helped me with the purchases I needed to make in the gaming department really quickly. I asked that employee if they could transfer me over to someone in the computer department and they simply told me to walk over and they would help me. Back to waiting again. I make eye contact with an employee of the computer department letting him know I was waiting for him after he finished with their customer. After they spent a long time with that customer, in which the customer left and didn't buy anything, the employee walked right past me back to the register in which I was done. I walked over to counter and asked him if he was ready for me and he was like oh yea like he had forgot, AFTER HE CLEARLY WALKED PAST ME. After showing him the item on my phone he passed me over to another employee, JR. Why was I waiting for you to help me if you were just gonna pass me to someone else! JR found the item that I needed quickly but told me that their location no longer had them but Best Buy Long Island City had them. All that waiting for me not to go home with the item that I wanted. I said fine I'll place the order for pick up at Best Buy Long Island City. Before finalizing the transaction he asked me for the pick up person in which I handed him my phone with the first and last name, phone number, and the email of the person who I wanted to pick up the order. He typed in the information from my phone, thanked me and handed back my phone. He shortly handed me my receipt after I had paid and quickly dismissed me. Fine whatever I placed my order and Best Buy Long Island city emailed me within minutes that the order was ready. Now here's what pushed me off the edge and led me to writing this review. The person I wanted to pick up the order, the one I gave JR my phone to type the information in for, was not on the order. Are you kidding me? I was absolutely livid. Luckily I was helped out by Daniel Hristodorov from Best Buy Long Island City Computer Department with extreme speed and no hardships. I've always had 5 out of 5 experiences with Best Buy Long Island City, I only went to this best buy because it was close to me at the time. Suraj was extremely hard working on a Sunday and meticulously prepared notes for my three old laptops that were beyond or close to beyond repair. With the patient of a living saint, he took down all the information and explained what I should expect step by step. He did not have to go that extra route to assuage any feelings of anxiety I was going through given the sentimental aspect of understanding how data can be backed up appropriately. Then, during the pickup I imprudently showed up many hours before my appointment time and Charles was the perfect gentleman who also resolved much more than he needed to as he multitasked masterfully. Although he gave me full individualized attention, he never abandoned others who also benefited from his expertise and desire to guarantee your full satisfaction. Both gentlemen are paragons of a work ethic that does not seem to be part of the contemporary social fabric.
A lovely young gentleman by the name of Omar surpassed my expected notions of professionalism and a selfless desire to help your fellow human being.
I made a great deal of frustrating calls to Best Buy's customer service, specialized local departments and local stores and got nowhere. It was not until I decided to personally visit this nearby Best Buy location that I made some headway solely because of Omar's interventions. It is important to note I did not buy the product that needed future installation at this location given how challenging parking is in the neighborhood that is all the more congested as the years pass.
I was waiting on line in order to speak to somebody at the Geek Squad, and Omar noticed me even though he was far away. Unlike others who could have easily directed their attention elsewhere, he approached from a far distance to assist me and inquire more about what I needed. Omar couldn't have been nicer or more industrious as he immediately did everything in his capacity to ensure I had clarification and written confirmations for my pending issue in writing. Further, he was always extremely courteous and explained why he was doing what he was doing, proposing solutions as he sought out my opinion in the process. From now on, this is the store I will associate with as Omar has earned my trust and respect for his work ethic. I wish I had read the reviews here before going to this Best Buy store so I could avoid this frustration.
My situation is that on Jan 19, 2024, I came to this store to buy a new laptop. After coming back home, I open the box and realized that it is an old, dirty laptop with a cracked cover. Of course, the serial number doesn’t match with the one in the box. I immediately came back to the store to ask for exchange but the customer service staff, including Mr. Ernesto Tobar, said that the laptop is not the one they sold me, so I won’t get it exchanged. One of the staff members even asked me in a threatening way if I was serious with this request because I may face consequences if I made it up. I was really shocked and disgusted at the way they treat their customers like that.
Later that day, I chatted with Best Buy customer service, and I was suggested to come back to the store and talk with the manager about this.
So, I come to the store the next day, asking to see the store manager and Mr. Ernesto Tobar appeared and said that he is the store manager I am looking for. He still kept his view.
I didn’t trust that, so I asked for his business card which shows his position as “Consultation Agent” which proved my guess is right. I insisted to see someone in higher rank than Mr. Ernesto and then a lady (who I didn’t ask for the name) and a man that called himself Mr. Shawn Gugick came talk to me. They all have the same answer.
So, this is definitely the end of Best Buy for me. I have no way or mean to bring this case further so basically I will stop thinking about this after writing this review.
I feel sorry for Best Buy because I am bringing a case, so they know that there’s something wrong with their management system. Best Buy will go down sooner or later if the defect is not fixed.
