My partner and I showed up for a 9pm tango milonga today (July 26), and unfortunately we didn’t even hit the dance floor.
In short, the desk lady denied our student ID’s for the discounted $20 entrance, because they didn’t have expiration dates on them. We found this criteria very odd…no where else asks for that on ID’s—other milongas, museums, dance studios, etc. Raising her voice, she tells us our student ID’s were issued in 2019. We explain that we are graduate students in long programs. In the same raised tone, she demands “updated” student ID’s, which they were. All of this was for a silly student rate to enter the milonga. Then she tells us to just pay the regular fee of $30.
Sure, we could’ve paid the entrance fee at full charge had she just said they’re not accepting student ID’s (it seemed like she was doing everything she could to deny them anyways). No problem. But she kept escalating in tone to the point where we didn’t even want to give them our business. Odd way to treat people who are brand new to the studio and don’t know the policies. Our experience with her soured our experience, and we probably will not return. I see there’s another review taking issue with the front desk, and anyone else who has similar experiences as us should feel validated.
An odd thing was when we got home, they sent us a receipt thanking us for our business and saying we paid...
Read moreI’ve been taking West Coast Swing lessons at Danznik Studios and I can’t say enough good things about this place. The instructors are top-notch, the socials and open practices are fantastic, and the staff are always super friendly and helpful.
Jes Ann has been the biggest influence on my WCS journey — I take her private lessons and her Wednesday group classes, and she’s the reason I’ve improved so quickly. Jes has a gift for breaking down techniques in a clear, approachable way, and she always makes sure we’re having fun while we learn — which is exactly why I started dancing in the first place!
I also take Sunday classes with Joe Miller, who’s incredibly technical and detail-oriented. Joe has helped me correct my posture and frame, breaking me out of some long-standing bad habits. His feedback has made a huge difference.
On Fridays, I take classes with Galen and Kat — a fantastic duo. Kat recently helped me with a major breakthrough in understanding connection, and I left class that day feeling like a whole new dancer.
Beyond the amazing instruction, what keeps me coming back is the community. I’ve made so many new friends here — it’s welcoming, supportive, and full of people who just love to dance.
If you’re looking to learn West Coast Swing, improve your dancing, or just have a great time with great people, Danznik is the...
Read moreThis is a review specifically on the staffing and business side. They asked that we leave our umbrellas by the front door (well away from the classroom)- not a problem. After the one hour class, I come back & my distinct looking umbrella that can't be mistaken for another and was under several other umbrellas- is no longer there. I go up to the front desk to ask if my umbrella might have been turned in there for some reason because it's no longer in the umbrella bucket. The person at the front desk say no and looks back at her desk. I triple check the umbrella area again just to be sure, walk back and ask her what to she suggests. She takes a while to even make eye contact or respond that there's no umbrella here. The owner/manager nearby just says, "looks like we have an umbrella thief. We'll let you know if someone returns it" and they go back to their cell phones." No apology or acknowledgement that my property was stolen & it was their request that I leave it out of my sight to begin with. I go back to the classroom and thankfully Stephanie the instructor suggests I take this ugly old umbrella that had been there forever and thus not claimed by anyone. So no, I would not recommend regular interactions with a business so cavalier about stolen property within the time of just a...
