I had two gowns that I purchased online, both very long and I needed to get them tailored. One gown I planned to wear on my cruise in January of 2024. Unfortunately, I found out that the cleaners that I used for several years and the wife used to do all of my tailoring of my jeans, pants, tops, skirts, etc., closed 6 months prior. I had no idea of who or where to go, so I checked the reviews on Google. I thought let me see the reviews on good tailors. I found a dry cleaner on the Upper East side, but they were out of the way from where I live and work. Afterwards, I found Dejavu Tailoring, and the hundreds of reviews they had, more than the first place I found. Dejavu has also been featured in the media. As a result, I decided to check Dejavu Tailoring out.
I spoke with Kai the owner and explained what I needed to have done. His office was a few blocks in the Garment District from where I worked, so that was very convenient. I brought in both dresses, and he measured the first navy gown, and the second blue ombre gown I wanted to wear for the cruise was next. We went back and forth on the length of the hem. Kai wanted to make it floor length, and I wanted my heels to show, at least the front of the heel as they were sparkly. We decided on an inch to hem. As I thought more on it, I was not happy with that, so then later that day I sent him the photos of the picture of the gown on the model, and I also researched on hem lines and what I was looking for. I didn't want the dress to be too formal as it had pockets and I wanted it to look dressy and fun.
I had met him again the next day to try the dress on again before he tailored it, with what I wanted as it was not floor length, but almost floor length he said. The week after I came to pick it up and I was nervous on how it would look, and the gown was perfect, it skimmed the floor without touching it, and my heels were able to peek out when I put my foot forward. I was able to swirl around, and the ombre color was striking. It was a lot more than I expected to pay for tailoring as far as price to be honest, but once it was completed, I was very satisfied and was happy with Kai and his tailoring and customer service, and his love and passion for his work showed in how my gown was tailored.
I recently went back to Kai this month as I had purchased a multi color dress that was too large in the armpits, and also a blue blouse that was too large on the shoulders. Kai worked his magic again. A week later I went to pick up my clothing, and had fitted them on. The blouse fit much better, and so did the dress, it made a big difference and looked like the dress was custom made for me.
Kai also has his own coat and clothing label, and showed and had me try on a few leather and fur coats, and wool and fur coats that were both stunning and beautiful.
Thank you Kai for all that you do! I am happy that I chose you to be my tailor!...
Read moreI was looking for a great tailor for many years. I am very picky with any professional I choose since I know I won't be genuinely happy if i spend alot of money and not truly be happy with the outcome. I received several other recommendations from friends but something just was not clicking with me. I was attracted to Dejavu Tailoring for some reason and of course their impeccable reviews. I kept reading about Kai doing great work and all the happy customer reviews. When i first met Kai he saw my suit and told me i dont really need tailoring since it fit almost perfectly right off the rack. It was nice to see someone that was honest and not trying to fool me out of my money. Luckily i had about 3 other suits and it was releaving knowing I was in great hands. Kai is very personable and works like a machine. He made sure I received my suits ready before he left on vacation which I was very grateful for. When I picked up my suit his assistant told me how happy I looked...I couldn't stop smiling. Just trying on the suits i felt "very special" as it was made just for me. Now i know the feeling of "fits like a glove". I will recommend Dejavu Tailoring to everyone I know. If people asked me before if my suit was tailored...i can only imagine what they will say now. Thank you Kai! I...

I came in to move epaulets from one brand new sweater to another new one. I thought $50 was reasonable and the lady was really nice. Two weeks later I picked up my sweater, took it home and found the epaulets were sewn onto my back, where you’d expect wings to grow out of, instead in on my shoulder. I took it in again and once again a super nice staff member told me they’d fix it for free. Days later I got a call saying they’d actually need $20. Finally I came back and picked up my sweater from a third really nice lady, but the sweater is frankly a little dirty and is ripped on the shoulder.
At the end of the day I paid 4 visits and $70 over a month for a ripped sweater. I feel bad leaving a poor rating cause they’re genuinely nice people, but NY has a million tailors. I personally will try a different one.
Edit. Okay I I went home, tried it on. They charged me $20 on top of the original $50 to take off the epaulets AND SEW THEM ON IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT BUT CROOKED THIS TIME and poke a hole in the shoulder. Now it’s down to one star. Sorry guys. You charged me $70 and wasted a months time to ruin a brand new...
