Today at 34th Street Hudson Yards in New York City, there was a chaotic event that left a very negative impression. The individuals guiding people were all dressed in black, but they came across as some of the most antisocial and unapproachable staff anyone could encounter. One woman, positioned near the Roberto Coin store—which has not even opened yet—stood out in particular. Although I am not certain about her background, her demeanor was extremely off-putting. She appeared low-energy and unhelpful, providing no useful information or directions. Instead, she responded with hostile facial expressions, almost as if she was going to vomit just from engaging in simple conversation. This situation is unacceptable, especially in a shopping center environment. Events like these are supposed to create a positive experience, yet the complaint falls on deaf ears because the experience is completely opposite of what anyone would expect at a mall. The level of chaos was unlike anything I have ever seen—people were treated as if they were at an unmanaged, overcrowded airport. Worse, the staff hired seem to not want to be around the public. If you are antisocial, and if you view interacting with customers as a nuisance instead of a formality, then this job is not for you. This has happened repeatedly. The people hired, dressed in black thinking that appearance alone is enough to convey professionalism, are often the least educated and most indifferent. Wearing black doesn’t compensate for lack of knowledge or customer service skills. Every time someone asked a question, the staff responded with confusion or hostility, making the whole experience frustrating and confrontational. This is a terrible reflection on Hudson Yards and must be addressed...
Read moreI visited The Shops on the second weekend since it’s open. I’m not a “shopper” but it was a cold day and thought it would be fun to spend a few hours there. There are plenty of nice stores though more than a few have more than one storefront there so it doesn’t feel like there’s a great variety. The restaurants look nice but there was an hour + wait to sit dine at any one with waitservice. Take outs were super busy too. Meanwhile there are no benches or public seating elsewhere so people were sitting on the floor of the mall which didn’t fit the high end image of the venue. The front entry was very cold and windy —- people seemed to opt for the regular doors instead of the revolving doors. There was a long line to walk up The Vessel (and apparently reservations are required) so we skipped that. It’s only a week old and while I doubt it’s going to get less crowded, I’m going to trust that they work...
Read moreHudson Yards is New York's newest neighborhood and tourist attraction and home to over 100 stores, restaurants, offices, public art and dynamic cultural institutions. Here you will see The Shed, modern residences, 14 acres of public plazas, gardens and groves and the world's first Equinox Hotel. It’s located between 10th and 12th Avenues from West 30th to West 34th Streets. The No. 7 Subway is the main conduit to and from Hudson Yards. It connects to Times Square and beyond from an eye-catching new station, located steps from the east lobby across Hudson Park. It’s breath-taking especially at night and a very busy place. I enjoyed every minute walking around and discovering every inch of...
