Girls and boys...This is me saying to you PLEASE VISIT THE STORE IN PERSON IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO. The beauty of the bags is not fully captured in the online space. All the bags look lovely online but in person they are absolutely STUNNING and B-U-T-T-E-R-Y to the touch. There's a variety of colors and textures to choose from so you're bound to find something you love or something that your loved one(s) will love (which was my intent for shopping).
For example, you have your shoulder bags but also your cross-body bags, computer bags, bags with zippers, bags without zippers and more! Any and every bag you could dream up and desire is inside the store! There's even cute little trinkets like coin bags, notebooks, PLG's own signature keychain, as well as a tassel keychain, bifold wallets, toiletry bags, and even cute little envelope wallets (all three of which I ended up getting for family - they're lovely to look at and touch and also make perfect gifts when you're concerned with packing light - minus the toiletry bag, which is hefty, but it is a bag made for being roomy, so you know what to expect).
Also, try to check out the almost perfect section and the unicorns! The APS is like the name says, almost "perfect" bags with minor imperfections (which are barely noticeable) that you get for less! And the unicorns! Bags that are limited and offered in fresh, fun colors!
As for suggested improvements, it would be helpful if response time to email and social media contact were more expedient and if there were a phone number to contact so that customers could check current inventory. That would help customers who live nearby or are visiting determine whether they should visit the store in person (no sales tax!) or buy online.
All in all, the reality of it is that you're going to spend a pretty penny at Portland Leather Goods. You can just relax in the fact that you're paying for quality and that whether it's for yourself and/or for your loved ones, it will be a worthwhile purchase.
So, if you hesitated to step forth in the store before or even now, please take the opportunity to visit if you can. It was a wonderful experience for me. And the employees there helped create that experience. I came in knowing what I wanted to purchase, with a few curiosities about colors, and employees were welcoming and generous enough to check for me. And you can do the same!
There's a reason why Portland Leather Goods comes up when people think of local and think of leather. Come and...
Read moreOkay I have given it some thought. Based solely on the customer experience and what they have done with their products. Good for them, more power to them. but I wont shop here again. I feel as if that is false advertising. So. The name “Portland leather goods” used to be synonymous with fine handmade quality goods. Made in Portland. When I got the shipping information. Let me say. I was surprised. And then I dug into it more. Wow. Like everyone else they have moved it on down south. I like the message they put out. But that's the narrative they choose to project. The website is really good. but I have to be honest I was disappointed to say the least. I thought I was getting an actual "made in Portland" bag, but leave it to someone like this company to capitalize on consumers’ desire to partake in the culture and authentic handmade goods of one of the most prideful states in America.
I feel so stupid that I paid 175.00 for a bag of this quality. I could of got equal quality from another retailer for far less. Although the company has branded the products “portland leather,” there is surprisingly nothing special about them and they aren't made in Portland. This is widely unknown to consumers, the products are standard mexican made leather handbags outside the state of Oregon in a factory in mexico.” Which BTW is not advertised up front. its buried in the website. And even then it's still pretty scant on details. seems like a mexican sweatshop with PLG stamped over it. Another texas pete's. which we all know now is not...
Read moreUpdate - I have stopped shopping and buying anything from PLG. Their practices on obtaining a "unicorn bag" or unicorn item are unethical. You have to buy 20 mystery boxes to get 1 unicorn item, meanwhile you now have 19 bags in your closet that was stale inventory for PLG. The ability to resell the non unicorn bags is impossible because everyone else is trying to get the same bag. Or if you are local, you have to come in as often as possible in the morning to even see a "unicorn bag" before a local poacher gets it. PLG needs to change its ways. When you buy leather from the tannery, you can project how many of what bag can be made. It doesn't need to be a mystery or a LuLaRoe type of MLM marketing scheme. -
Upon walking into the store, there is a sign to please sanitize which I love! The store was stocked well. The store front was very welcoming. It was well labeled for pricing and the signage was great. The store felt very clean! The selection of Almost Perfect items was amazing! Totes, crossbody, backpacks, laptop bags, wallets... Everything. It was so awesome! I was in leather heaven! I was able to touch and feel each bag. I could see in person the bags I was admiring online. The in store stock was different than online and contained far more unicorns in person! I have come to love and enjoy my interactions with all employees here! They have begun to know me on a first name basis which I'm not sure if that's good or bad yet 😂🤔 thank you for treating me like family when I take the time to come in! I...
